V+ Box Loud Humming Sound

Okay, so I have had my V+ box for 3 or 4 years and everything fine.
Last week repairman had to come and install new modem for me. He went to the box in the street and did some work. After this I suddenly started getting a loud humming noise from the V+ box. Now I mean really loud, you could hear it in the next room. So it was still there next morning I turned off the box and unplugged it. Bliss silence as it use to be. But now every so often during the day I get the humming noise again. Not as loud as the first time but still quite loud. If you put your hand on the top of the box the vibration is really strong. It comes and goes quite random.
If I am sitting reading or whatever it is annoying.
Now the box has not been moved, still sits on the glass TV stand it has sat on for the past two years with no problem. Open to the air so nothing blocking vents etc.
Okay so now for the silly question?
Is the box faulty?
Or is it because the hum is random just something I should just get used to?
Now I do know there is a certain amount of noise from the box which I block out as I am so used to it. But this loud humming is different.
