Sheryl Crowe's Tomorrow Never Dies? Seriously? A song that just lies there and dies there? k.d Lang's Surrender, bumped to the end credits, should have been the main theme. It is far superior.
The chorus is much catchier than Skyfall, in my opinion.
Does it matter about the song whoever sings it. The latest Bond film is really a travesty to be honest. I had ordered it from Amazon late last year and got it this week and started watching it the same evening.
Perhaps I am too old for this type of film and having watched all of the Bond films since Dr No found this latest film, Skyfall, a big disappointment. The Scottish scenes were laughable as they were a bit like Home Alone in the antics depicted.
A waste of £10? Well probably no but i don't know how long it will be before I watch it again. I could take it and several other of my DVDs to a charity shop.

I fail to see how Skyfall is a travesty. If Ian Fleming were alive today. Skyfall is what he would be writing. And this Home Alone accusation really is getting tiresome. The Scottish scenes - quite in keeping with Bond's past - were a nod to John Buchan, who influenced Fleming.

Agreed. Would have much preferred Surrender as the opening song TND
Love Adele. Hate this song. I might be my least liked song of her's. So I have mixed feelings about her winning an Oscar. Happy for her but not for the song in question.
Even Sheena Easton's Bond theme is streets ahead of this.

Your're entitled to your views as indeed so am I. Have you read the reviews of Imdb?

If you read the book of Skyfall it does stick to the story. I personally didn't enjoy it as much as either Goldeneye or Casino Royale but it would be 3rd after that.
As for the topic I would say it probably helped regards airplay of song and the links but I don't think people would have seen it just for a 3 minute song. Not with today's cinema prices.

Dear me...are we now going to go through this ridiculous 'comparison' all over again with the DVD/Blu ray release?
Agreed...so many tiresome people thinking they are being oh so witty and clever with this pathetic 'comparison'...like the 'seige in a house with rudimentary weapons' thing had never been done prior to Home Alone. My god, half the westerns ever made have similar scenes, just for starters.
It speaks volumes about the mentality of some people that the only single movie comparison they can make is a childrens comedy.
If any comparison came to mind for me, it would have been Straw Dogs.
I really didn't like the song, particularly as you can hear Adele breathing after every line. I rhought that a good producer would have edited that out and it sounded completely put of place in a Bind theme, which should sound much more classy. My reason for watching Skyfall was that it's a Bond film and the 50th anniversary of the franchise - nothing to do with the song. Having said that, I loved the macabre graphics during the song!
For me Goldfinger is still the best bond film and theme. Diamonds are Forever 2nd best theme.
I only realised watching the bluray last night that the Adele theme sounds different in the film to the version on youtube. It actually seems to sound worse for some reason. Not sure why. Weird.
Even Adele can't herself boost any movie to gross over $1.1 billion. No one can.
She did benefit from the movie and got the best-selling James Bond theme ever to her CV.
I hope that tonight Adele will amaze with her performance of "Skyfall" at the Academy Awards (Oscar's) as this will be the first time I'll pay any attention to the show.
They should have got Shirley Bassy involved and had them do a medley together. Would have been good to hear Adele sing some lines from Goldfinger etc and Shirley some of Skyfall. I think it would have been a good way to mark the 50 years from the perspective of the theme tunes.
I would have said this is one of the daftest threads I've seen on here, then I realised they'd used "of" instead of "have".
The Broccoli family must be delighted, that after 49 years of failure, they've now found the secret to making a successful James Bond film: a dull Adele song.
Maybe for Bond 24 if they get Adele to play Bond they can take 2 billion dollars.

Its a good film, one of the better Bond films imo. But, No matter what anyone says, Adele is an A-lister with a huge fanbase worldwide and the producers sought a big name to sing the theme (which is amazing) because they wanted a stars name attached to the film so yes, people did see it because it had Adele attached to it.
Each to their own, but I find that very surprising
Make You Feel My Love, Chasing Pavements, Someone Like You
Nope, sorry, never heard of any of them.
But then, unless they played them on Planet Rock I'm unlikely to. Haven't listened to chart music - or radio stations that play chart music - since the very early nineties.

Yep, Daniel Craig want to have the thrilling ADELE for Bond 24

Like the person who started this tread misused 'of' in the title of the thread you appear to have misused the word 'thrilling' or, at the very least, confused its meaning with 'dull and coma inducing'

that's not what has been said, maybe if you read threads properly you'd find em less daft:p
Whether you or i like the song or not makes no diff, it's whether it helped as a promotional tool to have the most popular singer of the time sing the theme that is being asked. The song received considerable attention for being Adele's first post 21 song, and has 85m views on one YT version alone. It seems obvious to me that it was an effective part of the film's promotion and as such helped it. Without it it might have been less successful and even if that was by about £50 at the box office the answer to the thread would be YES:D

So you think when people were looking at cinema listings deciding what film to go see, they would go "oh let's go see the Adele song?"
Of course not.
I'm sure Avatar's huge success was down to Leona Lewis having a big hit with Bleeding Love.

no i don't. Again you're not listening:p it's about how knowledge about the film gets through to people.
what is the point of having promotional tools if not to promote?

So the James Bond film, which was advertised on every ad break for about a month, had a dedicated tv channel, was featured in Coke and Sony TV adverts, as well as having shows on the BBC about the cars and history of Bond, let alone all the coverage of the 50th anniversary and the rather high profile Blu Ray advertising, might have passed people by if someone other than Adele performed the theme tune.
I'm sure that's why the comparatively low profile Chris Cornell soundtrack Casino Royale under performed...

Here's one Shirley herself did at Glasto:

I've managed to see lots of Skyfall promo WITHOUT even hearing a second of Adele's theme. So yea, i'm sure the film would have been ok without her.
