Not just a musical genius but a soothsayer too.

It's kind of obvious that there will be more riots at some point in the future. Does he know the exact date it's going to happen? That would be impressive.

If I was John Lydon, I'd be more concerned with the fact that in spite of punk rock and God Save The Queen, the fuss over the Royal baby appears to signify the country is still head over heels obsessed with the Royal Family and maintaining privilege and the class system.

    God save the queen
    The fascist regime
    They made you a moron
    Potential H-bomb

    God save the queen
    She ain't no human being
    There is no future
    In England's dreaming

Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
    There's no future, no future,
    No future for you

    God save the queen
    We mean it man
    We love our queen
    God saves

    God save the queen
    'Cause tourists are money
    And our figurehead
    Is not what she seems

    Oh God save history
    God save your mad parade
    Oh Lord God have mercy
    All crimes are paid

    When there's no future
    How can there be sin
We're the flowers in the dustbin
We're the poison in your human machine
    We're the future, your future

    God save the queen
    We mean it man
    We love our queen
    God saves

    God save the queen
    We mean it man
    And there is no future
    In England's dreaming

    No future, no future,
    No future for you
    No future, no future,
    No future for me

    No future, no future,
    No future for you
    No future, no future
    For you

John Lydon is a frustrating character. Hes clearly very bright, but is hardly the working class champion this thread is suggesting. Sometimes he can be very dismissive of the plight of others.

and yet sometimes he comes out with very insightful comments like these. I guess he will always be the contradictory, provocative individual he always was.

The trouble is that the riots didn't achieve anything. If anything, Cameron was strengthened, and disgust at the rioters made it easier for him. The main victims were not the Government or rich bankers, but small shopkeepers. Also, the relatively small number of middle-class kids who got involved were seized on by the press and treated as if they were typical (they weren't; most of the rioters were from poor backgrounds) and therefore it was, they claimed, nothing to do with poverty.

I don't see there being more riots. Last time, the police acted cautiously at first and the rioters thought their numbers would protect them from punishment; any new riot would be quelled with maximum force from the start, and only those willing to take the risk of prison would join in.

I don't see anything particularly insightful in what he said. He's just saying what most of us think and know. Of course there will be more riots at some vague point in the future. I'm not sure what turning the porn off has got to do with it, unless the streets are going to be invaded and wrecked by a load of frustrated wan kers.

John Lydon commenting on politics reminds me of the line in The Young Ones.

Rik: I'm going to write to my MP

Neil: You haven't got an MP, Rik, you're an anarchist

Rik: Ah, then I shall write to the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen!

Porn will still be available for adults who want it. I loathe Cameron, but they had to do something about the ease with which children access porn, and the awful effect this is having on many young people.

Do we know that? I'm not in favour of kids seeing porn for obvious reasons that they don't need to see it, but do we actually know what it's actually doing to "many young people"? And what has porn got to do with riots?

John Lydon - from anarchist to complete sell-out.

Lydon sold out for a few gold coins ... years ago he was purporting to be an angry young man, now he's a late middle aged bloke in slippers taking money for advertising butter. So much for his principles.

I'm old enough to remember 'God save the queen' shock lyrics and all these punks were mainly just posers out to shock. No one really took them seriously although Aunty Beeb made funereal announcements about them on Radio 4.

Most made up their 'working class roots' and were middle class types getting on bandwagon of the time.

    John Lydon who?

Nothing sadder than watching a man my dad's age still think he's a relevant punk anarchist of the people, when really he's a man approaching pension age who does the odd butter commercial and pops up occasionally on panel shows to remind us how annoying he is.

Kids have seen naked breasts at the breakfast table for decades, when their parents read The Sun..That is where it begins..He wouldn't dare go after The Sun.

His band Public Image Limited are still touring and the last album was well received. Metal Box PILs second album is rightly considered a classic..Theres more to John than The Pistols.

There's been considerable research done on the effects of pornography on teenagers who've grown up watching it. Most porn is based on very unusual types of sexual activity which boys who've watched from a young age think is normal and pressure girls to engage in.

As for what porn has to with riots, well, it was Lydon who raised the subjects together.

Naked breasts aren't the issue. Children viewing anal sex, group sex and simulated rape is.

Was he ever a relevant punk anarchist. He just encouraged the youth to jump up and down ?

He was certainly putting very little effort into singing when I went to see them.

Hes right if the tories keep turning the screws on the poor it will happen again. When families lose their homes to benefit cuts then things will turn nasty again.

well it did achieve something , it showed just how inadequate this country is to deal with such a thing . it was more embarrassing that we couldn't deal with it than it actually happening in the first place .and i am sure all the people who got nice new plasma tv`s and all the rest of it for free and wasn't caught would disagree too .

Well he was when I saw PIL and on the recent live DVD too. He has a unique style and thank god for that.

It actually speaks well in a way that the UK couldn't handle it - many regimes around the world would have handled it very quickly with lots of people being shot. The police should in retrospect have cracked down sooner, but I can understand their reluctance; they'd have got a lot of criticism for coming down too hard if people hadn't seen what the rioters could do first.

As for the people who nicked stuff and didn't get caught, I hope their nice new plasma tvs fall on them. Thieves getting away with it is not achieving something.

He is a daft banana but that is his trademark :)

Did you know that he was in a taxi with his wife going to Heathrow and they had a massive argument! They both missed their flight. He was furious with her.

Soon he loved her to bits and became very close to this day..........as that flight they missed was the Pan AM flight to New York that blew up over Lockerbie in 1988. This is absolutely true.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3511133.stm

They both would have perished like the other poor souls on that night.

Not saying it was an act of god that saved him but he is certainly a national treasure.
