There's a lot of people demonstrating in town today and they're all marching towards Govt House. The police are threatening to tear gas them. If there is any violence I fear the Army will have no choice but to intervene. This is much more than a demo against an Amnesty Bill now :-(
Oh dear, hope it doesn't get out of hand.

Just here briefly as am busy listing stuff on ebay.It all went pear-shaped last night as the Turbolister went down but it seems to be working again now, only another 15 items to list.....:(

Another one who didn't know it was Islay's birthday unless the group card went round weeks ago and I have forgotten - which is quite likely as there are several family birthdays this month....:D Anyway ~

I won't be here at 11-00am so I'll post this now.

    PLEASE WEAR A POPPY
    Don Crawford

"Please wear a poppy," the lady said
And held one forth, but I shook my head.
Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there,
    And her face was old and lined with care;
But beneath the scars the years had made
There remained a smile that refused to fade.

A boy came whistling down the street,
    Bouncing along on care-free feet.
His smile was full of joy and fun,
"Lady," said he, "may I have one?"
When she's pinned in on he turned to say,
"Why do we wear a poppy today?"

The lady smiled in her wistful way
And answered, "This is Remembrance Day,
And the poppy there is the symbol for
The gallant men who died in war.
And because they did, you and I are free -
That's why we wear a poppy, you see.

"I had a boy about your size,
With golden hair and big blue eyes.
He loved to play and jump and shout,
Free as a bird he would race about.
As the years went by he learned and grew
and became a man - as you will, too.

"He was fine and strong, with a boyish smile,
But he'd seemed with us such a little while
When war broke out and he went away.
I still remember his face that day
When he smiled at me and said, Goodbye,
I'll be back soon, Mom, so please don't cry.

"But the war went on and he had to stay,
And all I could do was wait and pray.
His letters told of the awful fight,
(I can see it still in my dreams at night),
With the tanks and guns and cruel barbed wire,
And the mines and bullets, the bombs and fire.

"Till at last, at last, the war was won-
And that's why we wear a poppy son."
The small boy turned as if to go,
Then said, "Thanks, lady, I'm glad to know.
That sure did sound like an awful fight,
But your son - did he come back all right?"

    A tear rolled down each faded check;
She shook her head, but didn't speak.
I slunk away in a sort of shame,
    And if you were me you'd have done the same;
For our thanks, in giving, if oft delayed,
Thought our freedom was bought - and thousands paid!

And so when we see a poppy worn,
Let us reflect on the burden borne,
By those who gave their very all
When asked to answer their country's call
That we at home in peace might live.
Then wear a poppy! Remember - and give!

    Hi Honey :)
Passports are with immigration because we have to renew our residence permit every 90 days to remain in the country. Not a huge pain as we have help to do it, many others have to attend in person, but I don't like not having it with me :)

The trick is remembering when you get close to the 90 days... never a problem with OH as he's in and out of the country too often to need to do it but the kids and I do, although middle child is just back from Nepal so he doesn't need to, yet :)

But yes, even with help, it is a pain...

Oh i see. I suppose your husband has to arrange his trips around the time his passport is gone? It must be irritating.

Nope :) you only have to go to immigration if you've not been out of the country in the 90 day period. You get a landing card on arrival, it's in two parts, one part you fill out and give to passport control on arrival, the other half you fill out when you leave. If you don't leave within 90 days (or less depending on what visa you have) then you have to go to Immigration for an extension of stay. OH spends more time out than in so has never had to do it!
You do end up with a slightly paranoid awareness of dates and expiry times :D

Same problem yesterday - it wouldn't do anything for a while, then twice got through nearly 50 items before telling me different reasons for failure. I steamed through this morning
I suspect there's been another upgrade, or it's to do with the free listings last weekend - that's when it tends to happen (even though you don't get free with Turbolister.

Check your postage rates when they're up - last time this happened all mine got reset to zero.

It seems to still be quite good-natured demonstrating for now, but who knows...:) Just waiting for the lovely 'Poo' (her nickname, means 'crab') Yingluck Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, to address the nation on the subject of the International Court Judgement, meanwhile the Senate are still "debating" the Amnesty thang :)
