Vote to evict versus vote to save....

I see lots of threads where people are saying things like "if it had been vote to save instead of vote to evict so-and-so would have been safe/gone out later/survived for longer.
I'm genuinely confused by this because surely the two votes would show exactly the same result, it's just opposite ways of getting there - but the least popular person would still be evicted, either voted out with a high number of votes in a 'vote to evict', or come last in a 'vote to save' vote such as we have now.
I just don't see the difference, don't know how having it to 'save' in the past would have saved anyone who was voted out with vote to 'evict'.
I'd really appreciate if the more knowledgeable forum members could show me how, with figures/data etc, how the voting process can make a difference to who is least popular!

Nikki BB7 for example. probably would have won the vote to save but also got the most in the eviction.
last year, Corin, John James etc would have stayed in a vote to save rather than evict
