Alec Baldwin - Glengarry Glen Ross

His performance in that totalled no more than about 5 or 6 minutes - but he was absolutely breathtaking! Every time I see a steak knife I think of Alec Baldwin.

In fact - that film had quite a few excellent performances - I found Jack Lemmon's the best though.

    Back to my list.

Vincent D'Onofrio - Full Metal Jacket
Al Pacino - The Godfather, And Justice For All
Jack Hawkins - The League of Gentlemen
Michael Douglas - The War of the Roses
Kathleen Turner - The War of the Roses
Morgan Freeman - The Shawshank Redemption
Tim Robbins - The Player, Bob Roberts
Robert Walker - Strangers on a Train
    Delroy Lindo - Heist
Robert Shaw - The Taking of Pelham 123
Walter Matthau - The Taking of Pelham, Charlie Varrick
Jodie Foster - The Silence of the Lambs
Linda Fiorentino - The Last Seduction
Bette Davis - All About Eve
George Sanders - All About Eve
    Jimmy Stewart - Rope
    Gig Young - Teacher's Pet
Glenn Ford - The Blackboard Jungle

Oh gawd! There's too many to mention.

I like your list, Sheila, especially Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

Even though I'd seen it many times before, I saw TWOTR recently and was surprised that I hadn't noticed before, how good they were.

I think that applies to all of their films. They were a good team.

    Drew Barrymore in Grey Gardens

Fantastic performance and if it had been released in cinemas she almost certainly would have been nominated for an oscar.

I hope she is really proud of that performance as she really in my opinion did little Edie justice

Don't know how I forgot that one - mesmerising.

Gotta add another - having just watched Aliens (again LOL) a brilliant showing from Sigourney Weaver.

And another ... Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter.

    Good call.

It's broad daylight and there are people around but due to Rutger Hauer's brilliant acting, you still fear for the protagonist's life.

Rutger Hauer work on The Hitcher was so well done and the acting very believable. Thomas Howell was scared of Rutger Hauer while filming The Hitcher.

I'm surprised there are no mentions of Woody Harrelson for 'Rampart', 'The Messenger' or 'No Country for Old Men' amongst others.

I'm guilty myself, but I'm surprised at the lack of mentions for Gary Oldman.

Terrific actor who shines in most things he does.

Amy Adams and Ben Mackenzie in Junebug. I'd only ever seen them in teenage-orientated things before (Amy - Cruel Intentions 2 and 1 episode of Buffy; Benjamin in The OC) and was blown away by their performances.
