Problem With Humax 9200 and svideo output into dvd recorder

I seem to be having a problem getting a Pioneer 630h dvd recorder to recognize the Svideo from the Humax 9200 vcr outlet. I am using a switchable scart to Svideo socket/Rca adaptor at the Humax end and I am using a Svideo lead and 2 rca leads to connect to the Pioneers inputs.
I have tried all sorts of settings and even tried another adaptor and leads but the picture is almost black and white on the recording with just a few color bits here and there.
I have also tried a Scart to Svideo/rca lead just in case the adaptors are the problem but it made no difference.
Any suggestions please
