Little things that annoy you in games

My biggest one is in Metal Gear Solid 2 with Emma. You have to swim with her on your back. hold her when walking as slow as a snail, sniper fire to keep her safe as she crosses the bridge thing, then she snuffs it anyway  All that and she dies. Bitch :p

What are yours?

In Bioshock 2 when you have to protect the little sisters. Put me off the game, i prefer the way it was in B1 when you saved or killed them.

Havent played that yet. So you have to basicaly do what you did at the end of Biioshock one for the whole game?. Great:rolleyes:.
As for my pet hate in games its escort missions. In particuliar the Dead Island one where you escort that shaman.

Just a small quip but I really find it annoying in the Assassin's Creed games with the amount of trail missions. There seems to be hundreds of the buggers! And the introduction of the 100% sync thing irritates me as well.

Yeah. Having to do a mission in a set time to get 100% sync and it doesn't allow any time to look around.

I know the most 'evil' one is one of the lair missions in Brotherhood where you have to do it under eight minutes. A) it is virtually impossible to do it first time as like you said you need to look round and the time limit only allows abosolute perfection. And B) it is normally to boring to redo it again anyway.

Glitches like those seen in Sonic Generations, latest example being the truck chase section on the City Escape mission, ended up getting snagged on the scenery just before the end and it stuttered a bit before catapulting me into the air and back through the whole stage before Sonic sunk through the floor and died. This sort of thing just shouldn't happen, the fact it hasn't even been patched makes it worse.

Older PC games that don't have native gamepad support.

That was the worst part of the game! Swimming levels. Bah.

What really irritates me these days are some games taking aaaaaages to start up for the first time (i'm looking at you ubisoft and EA)

I started up Assassin's creed Revelations last week for the first time. The following happened

    start game

    1) This game has a been updated, please install version 1.3 (ok did it took a couple of minutes)

    2) This game recommends\requires a partial install onto your Hard Disk this may take a few minutes (ok, a few minutes later. I think i'm good to go but....)

    3) 'To play this game online you require a ubisoft pass, please enter your pass code into the space below, or buy one from the online store.' (then have to find the code and input it, surely i can start now.....)

    4) Thanks for registering your online code, would you like to join Ubisoft Uplay?its a service that measures your progress, and offers members extra content blah blah blah. If you have a profile log in here, or register a new uplay account

Aaaarghhh, remember the good old days when it didn't take 10 minutes to start the game first time round, it actually took 45 seconds. Whats even more shocking is I just had the basic version, if have a collectors edition there would be an extra step where I had to put in codes to download my exclusive content.

Ea are doing the same thing now (Fifa 12 took just as long), trying to tie everyone into Origin accounts.

Fighting a boss and getting him down to the last bit of energy, leaving you needing to only hit him one more time to kill him, yet he gets the first hit and you die instead and have to replay the whole fight.

Masses of pointless dialogue can get boring in some games. Also too many cutscenes, especially unskipable ones right before really difficult bosses! I pay to play games, not watch them!

Games that become too easy when you level up or games where dying doesn't even really matter or where you can't even die (fable anyone?)

Action games with lots of explosions, none of which can actually hurt you and enemies are just infinite until you move to the next area.

Games that babysit you too much, like showing you big arrows or trails of where to go.

Games where combat just involves locking onto an enemy and then watching the same sequnce of moves over and over again as everything around you dies.

Sequels that are exactly the same as the original or sequels that are actually worse than the original. I remember when 'sequel' used to mean, improved in every way, now it often just seems to mean 'cash in'.

Games with horrendous, badly written story lines and G.I Joe style character cliches. Honestly, it must take more effort to make characters this bad.

Games where there is not enough differentiation between weapons / character classes / abilities, like there has been too much effort put into balancing everything- ie, we had to make the rpg a peeshooter, even though it is supposed to be a kick ass weapon, because other wise, it'd dominate everything. Well make it really hard to get then so when you finally do get it, it's satisfying how bad ass you are :D

Games where they cover up shoddy A.I by making the A.I cheat, ie, instead of bothering to make them intelligent, just have them standing around, like before but now with twice the health and notice you from miles away even though you were careful not to be seen.

When there is a supposed puzzle in a game but really it's just something simple but more annoying like they hid the switch behind some boxes, forcing you to look online for the solution or something so complex everyone ends up looking online for the solution because no normal human would ever be able to do it which sort of defeats the point and takes away any sense of achievement.

When spawn points for enemies are really badly executed like you can see them spawning or they spawn behing you when it's a dead end or a load spawn near you and kill you instantly.

When a game autosaves right after some bad decision you made so you have to load you last manual save which ends up putting you back an hour or when a game won't let you save and you then die and have to go back ages.

Games where all the missions just seem to be 'take A to B because you have guns and I don't'. Hows about you get your own guns and take it yourself while I play something more interesting!!

Games where you have A.I team mates that despite carrying the same guns as you, couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag and like running into walls and talking to themselves.

Games where skill doesn't really apply because unlike the enemies, you can take 50 bullets to the head with nothing more than a fleshwound and even when you do get hurt, it's fine because you have a bazillion 'magical pies' to restore life anyway.

When you get stuck inbetween walls and have to reload or when enemies or characters clip through walls.

Erm, that's all I can think of right now :D

I wouldn't it of been easier to say ''now that I think about it I don't like gaming'' lol

Just out of interest though what are the games that have past all these tests

Any mission/quest where you have to escort dumb-as-shit AI.
    Against-the-clock missions.
    Underwater sections.
Unskippable non-essential dialogue that you have already watched and listened to twice.
JRPG characters that go far beyond being 'cute' and induce homicidal thoughts.
PC games that don't have a windowed mode.
Tutorials you can't skip on your 3rd play-through of the game.

Not really since I do like gaming. The thread is called 'little things that annoy you in games' not 'things that stop you playing games altogether'.

Even a great game can have something little that is annoying about it.

I was joking, i thought the 'lol' would of made that clear :(

And i agree even my favourite games have there problems

The fact that Ezio, a master assassin, aiming to complete his quests through as stealthy means as possible, has ABSOLUTELY NO ABILITY TO CROUCH WHATSOEVER.

Honestly one of the most bizarre and infuriating design exemptions ever, it boggles the mind why he walks around everywhere bolt upright when a crouch button would mean the ability to hide behind a wall etc.

You can just harvest them immediately, and bypass the protection bits, you don't get as much ADAM though.

Ridiculous loading times (Skyrim comes to mind) I appreciate that the game like others is massive. But when you have to fast travel a lot for quest lines it seems 75% of it is loading screens that just kills any enjoyment/atmosphere that the game should be giving.

Also, as has been mentioned escorting stupid AI that just seem intent on stopping or going in the wrong direction.

Arma2 on the PC with the new patch (1.60), beta's and some clever mods/addons added.. :p

Now what annoys me:rolleyes:, having to wait for the patches & beta’s, having bought a half made PC game..

Also that the great mod community have to make up for the lack of ‘developer effort:eek:’ by producing smart mods/addons to make better & enhance the game.:D
