So what does this mean for freeview viewer.

1.LocalTV might be move to LCN26
    2. More LCN free up.
    3.Extra hours for freeview
    4.Will TelevisionX close?
    5. Will 5 later starts broadcasting?

I remember reading the news about its launch on DS (when they actually did media news - those were the days!), it was an interesting time in Freeview's early existence when its success was much less certain.

I also remember selling the old Thomson boxes when I worked in Currys, where I got £10 commission for every one. Was a very nice little earner :)

Of course, the massive success of Freeview led to C5 launching Fiver and Five US, probably the beginning of the (very long!) end. Fair play to TUTV for outlasting many predictions, mine included. It had quite a fan base on DS at one point (seems fitting the Mr. Ironeagle posted this thread!).

Are there any decent hours left that it had? Gold is only a few hours a day now, right? And the rest are overnight? Do we know if C5 will reclaim them?

    RIP.

    PS - There's a very nice obit by a516 - http://www.a516digital.com/2013/09/top-up-tv-obituary.html

Guess the 14day guide will cease to exist.

At least we can still use the box and freeviews 7 day guide

Gold is on ch 26 and Home is on ch 54.
    Does this mean:
    a) These LCNs will disappear?
    or
    b) Will Gold and Home now come to Freeview?
    or
    c) Will Channel 26 & Channel 54 be taken over by 2 new channels?
    or
    d) Am I completely way off the mark with all of this?!

I suspect Gold and Home (with their pointless hours) will leave, freeing up LCNs 26 and 54.

Local TV on Scotland and Wales will now likely get LCN 26, dropping the previous allocation of 34.

Meaning LCNs 34, 48 and 54 will be free on the Entertainment EPG.

With any new channels launching unlikely due to TUTV bandwidth being all over the place, this leave the EPG open to a reshuffle.

    By association rules:
    • Channel 5 has first-dibs on LCN 34, by proximity to 5USA.
    • LCN 48 is also first available to Channel 5, by proximity to both C5+1 and 5later.
    • Heart TV (on the Manchester mux) have the choice of LCN 54, by proximity to Capital TV.

Channel 5 could move C5+1 to 34. But then would 5later be allowed LCN 44? I haven't read the rules thoroughly enough, but as far as I am concerned - yes, as they are still the closest channel family. (This is unlikely, as 55 is such a good number for them.)

Digital UK may also declare a shuffle-up, throwing all bets out the window.

The scheduled reshuffle at LCN 65 is looming ahead. Collapsing the EPG would provide more time, but I suspect Digital UK don't want to wait longer than they have to to kick News and Childrens further down the list.

I doubt any of the above will actually move.

That's a good point, actually, as I think the data which supplies that guide is the same as the one Radio Times Extra (formerly Teletext Extra) uses. It could go either way.

It would be interesting to see a reshuffle of 'ALL' freeview channels in the entertainment catergory, maybe they could finally line up channels like all ITVs channels together, C4's and C5's ect.
Also making BBC 3 and 4 as low down as possible, would be good and all local channels.
So BBC 3 on 6, BBC 4 on 7, local TV (S4C/Channel 4 swap in Wales and BBC Alba in Scotland) on 8 and local TV in Wales/Scotland on 9! Then sister channels of comercial PSBs next with all others afther!
At lest thats how I would like to see a re-shuffle!

What I mean by Digital UK declaring a shuffle-up (per http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/86814/Digital_UK_LCN_Policy_Version_5.2_07082013.pdf) is that they would open the LCNs for claims by anyone on a higher LCN, then reshuffle based on the bids (prioritizing PSB and associated).

The writing was on the wall for TUTV for years. Even with them telling subscribers to subscribe to Sky a few forum members were adamant it would continue.....

It depends on which other TUTV associated channels will be affected, such as Marketplace, Television X and the BT Sport Preview. The bulk, if not all of the hours from TUTV's stream will go to 5later. Other overnight hours used by TUTV were on Channel 5's sister channels, presumably the hours will be returned to these channels, unless Channel 5 decides to sub let them to other broadcasters.

It will be interesting to see if UKTV actually launch Yesterday +1 to retain the Gold EPG slot. If they do it will probably just be a couple of hours a day taken from one of their existing services, rather than paying Channel 5 for the hours.

Gold/Home/TopUp1 share with Marketplace and BT Sport Preview. Is suspect these will be added to BT Sport Preview (assumed to be the future 5later space) to become 11:00 - 7:00 daily.

    Topup3 (2:00 - 6:00) shares with C5+1, so that could become 24 hours.

Topup5 (4:00 - 6:00) shares with TelevisionX and 5*. Probably extended viewing hours for one of these.

    Topup6 (4:00 - 6:00) shares with 5USA, so that could also become 24 hours.

After all, who would want such short and early hours?

So, not the bonanza of extra channels I was hoping for then.....:(

I think the TUTV EPG data is supplied on the data stream on Anytime 1. The Radio Times Extra data is on streams attached to 5 USA and Television X. Even if Television X closes the stream could be linked to 5*, so probably not a major problem.

Top Up TV ceases from 1st November

Given the loss of Sky Sports and ESPN and the failure to conclude a deal with BT over their sports channels, this news doesn't exactly come as a surprise. What is a surprise is that they haven't adapted to changing circumstances like they've done before.

For example, I would have expected them to go down the route that VuTV are now taking by offering IPTV add on services. Why they didn't try and adapt this time around will probably remain one of those unanswered mysteries.

Although given that C5 airs Supercasino during that time which of course can't be shown on +1 so chances are they'll just rent it out to another adult channel.

I guess Northern & Shell could find something from their portfolio of channels to fill the slot, should they decide to take that route.
