FA Cup 5th round TV picks

Draw coming up shortly.

Things will be complicated by Chelsea v Brentford being played on 5th round weekend, so there's a chance ITV will pick that as their 4th round replay. It then remains to be seen if the draw is kind enough to let them stick with 2 games, then delaying one of their 5th round picks until a midweek (e.g. if we get something like Brentford/Chelsea v Man Utd).

Manchester City v Leeds (First pick surely)
    Manchester United v Reading

    Arsenal v Blackburn (ESPN)

    Fairly uninspiring draw.

Man Utd v Reading almost certainly ITV's first pick, Oldham v Everton and Man City v Leeds will also be shown but the other two is anyone's guess.

A gamble will probably be taken on Middlesbrough v Chelsea, with Arsenal v Blackburn making up the numbers.

would make sense for ITV to pick boro chelsea as that means they can show chelsea brentford replay and not have to show three live games that weekend

Is it 5 of the 8 on TV?

    Please not Utd vs. Reading

A one sided whitewash with players not celebrating scoring goals :yawn::yawn:

Manchester United v Reading, Oldham v Everton, Man City v Leeds, Middlesborough v Brentford/Chelsea, and Huddersfield/Leicester v Wigan Athletic are I think the 5 matches that will be chosen for TV.

I think Luton vs Milwall might get picked with Arsenal or City not getting picked as they are both at home.

Is it 4 or 5 on TV? For me, the nailed on ties are:

    Oldham v Everton
Man City v Leeds (wrong way round but it's nailed on and I can understand why)

    Middlesbrough v Brentford/Chelsea is a risk obviously

Well someone will. There's no way it will rank below 5 other games from that lot.

It's a hideous draw for the broadcasters. They'll probably want to wait for the replays to ensure Chelsea get through over Brentford. If they can't wait, ESPN may take the risk anyway as Chelsea should really go through:

    ITV: Oldham Athletic v Everton
    ESPN: Manchester United v Reading
ESPN: Middlesbrough v Brentford or Chelsea
ITV: Huddersfield Town or Leicester City v Wigan Athletic
ESPN: Manchester City v Leeds United

I guess ITV may put Manchester United v Reading first though I don't think I would in their shoes.

Doesn't mean it should be chosen. The only reason it should get picked is because it's not a particularly sensational draw.

    That's an exception.

More than likely we're looking at a textbook utd win

Reading more concerned with PL survival

There are four obvious picks from the draw

    Manchester City v Leeds United
    Manchester United v Reading
    Middlesbrough v Brentford/Chelsea
    Oldham Athletic v Everton

So it's one from the following four:

    Huddersfield/Leicester v Wigan
    MK Dons v Barnsley
    Luton Town v Millwall
    Arsenal v Blackburn Rovers

Arsenal vs Blackburn is the standout tie in terms of tv ratings.

Reading 3-4 Man Utd, Madejski Stadium. Not boring.

Man Utd-Reading, Old Trafford. Likely to be the usual Man Utd professional job breeze.

That'll almost certainly be a police-imposed Saturday lunchtime kick-off, so it'll be down to whether or not that slot's still available by the time it comes to making the pick.

Do you really need that explained, given the thread for the 4th round?

Non League at home to Championship in the 5th round, if ITV and ESPN manage to pick Man U and Arsenal at home to mediocre opposition over that tie then they deserve all the criticism they will get.

I think City v Leeds looks the more appealing tie.

Luton v Millwall should be a pick for ESPN.

    Are Luton and Milwall rivals?

Wouldn't be surprised if they had some 'history'.
