Ancestry.co.uk have analysed millions of birth records from 1905 to the present day and they found that certain names from 1905 were not present in the 2012 lists. These names were classed as 'extinct'.
Other names that had fallen in prevalence by 99 percent were classed as 'endangered'.
Names that had fallen 98 percent were classed as 'at risk'.

The analysis also showed far more girls’ names disappearing or ‘at risk’ than boys.
Here is a list of the categories with names.
‘Extinct’ - (None recorded in latest birth records):
Male - Cecil, Rowland & Willie
Female - Bertha, Blodwen, Fanny, Gertrude, Gladys, Margery, Marjorie & Muriel

I have noticed a definite shortage of Fanny and Willie in these modern times.
Do you know of anyone included in the above list?

Arnold, Fred, Ann, Jane, Janet, Jennie (isn't that just a spelling) and Mary. I'd have thought these would be fairly common traditional names.
Me too. I wonder if they take the variations of some of those names into account e.g. Anne instead of Ann, Jayne instead of Jane, Jenny instead of Jennie etc.
The study says that many popular names from the early 20th Century have evolved to a different form. They call it the 'Alfie Effect'.
Lexi replacing Alexandra, Ellie overtaking Eleanor, Archie overtake Archibald, etc.
That may explain it
Whats dopey about the name Benedict?
We can also rely on the Chav's to lumber their poor kid's with names like Jaden, Kayden, Kayleigh, Keeley, Kyle, Britney, Chantelle, Jordan, Dwayne and Wayne.
I also like Cecily for a girl, and Clifford for a boy.
I'm the opposite as it comes from one of the nastiest members of my family (and to be called nasty in my family you really have to work at it)
I'm middle-ish class and I don't think Benedict is a weird name. Its not something you hear a lot but it's not strange.
I don't think they are really at risk of disappearing. If you look at the way "at risk" is defined, it's probably just just that they were incredibly common in 1905 and there has been a dramatic drop. It doesn't necessarily mean they are rare these days, just nowhere near as common as they once were.
My Mum born 1902 was an Ethel, and I see that Lily Allen thought it good enough for her first child.
I didn't know that about Lily Allen, perhaps there will be a small resurgence now. People sometimes seem to follow the lead of celebrities when it comes to naming their children.
