I tend to enjoy reading more horror / thriller / dark and twisted novels around this time of year, as things get darker, colder and more miserable...

Can you suggest any spookily uncomfortable books to read?

Last year I read a real twisted book about the devil taking over the world - maybe something with a happier ending than this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scream-Feyer-hitching-suicide-bomber-ebook/dp/B00DBEO5J4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411602055&sr=8-1&keywords=The+scream+of+feyer

Just started playing dead space 3 on ps3 so maybe a good survival horror book? If that exists.

I've just finished Eeny Meeny by M. J. Arlidge - quite disturbing. Also Splinter by Sebastian Fitzek, very dark.

Blackheath Seance Parlour by Alan Williams. Spooky and fun at the same time, like Halloween should be.

If you want full-on spine chilling you can't get much better than Poe.

Last year I read a real twisted book about the devil taking over the world - maybe something with a happier ending than this:

Richard Kadrey, Sandman Slim series. He takes over Hell, Hell keeps trying to take over LA and has much dark humor. Not really uncomfortable to read, but fun. And if you want nasty..

Michael Slade, Special X series. The first ones, Headhunter and Ghoul aren't on Kindle yet but apparently coming soon and are horror classics. Author's a lawer specialising in criminal insanity cases and creates some rather insane criminals. Which more disturbingly are grounded in reality. The books also contain a fair bit of history about the RCMP, the Seattle/Vancouver areas and dark deeds done around those locales and other parts of the world. As a bonus, the book list used to research the stories is included. Or..

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0042AMD2M/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o02_?ie=UTF8&psc=1

"Four well-known horror authors pool their penchants for scares and thrills, and tackle one of the greatest of all legends, with each writer creating a unique character and following them through a vampire outbreak in a secluded hospital."

These are not your normal emo-vamps. Plus if you like the style, the authors also have their own fine selection of horrors in store for you.. Like "Serial Killers Uncut"

Then there are the classics, like Poe, Lovecraft etc which can be found for free.

The good folk at Wordsworth Editions do a "Mystery & Supernatural" collection
that offers good spooky stories by Sheridan Le Fanu,
    E. F. Benson, F. Marion Crawford, Oliver Onions, E. Nesbit and others:

    http://www.wordsworth-editions.com/collection/mystery-&-supernatural

Some of the older books in that collection, such as "The Bishop of Hell"
by Marjorie Bowen and "Couching at the Door" by D. K. Broster, are
outta print but can be picked up second-hand in many bookshops.
