FIFA bundle was not a reaction to E3 criticism

If true, it means this isn't some reaction to poor pre-orders which a lot of people keep bleating on about. No one actually knows what the pre-order numbers are.
"It's been going for a long time," Rutter told Outside Xbox. "In the same way I remember most console launches - I've been around for all of them - bundles happen, and this is something that Microsoft and EA have agreed to do and it was going on a long time ago."

Certain people on here are adamant they do
A GAME employee leaked pre-orders in June and July from a region of the UK.

Since the reveal of the PS4 hardware at E3 pre-orders have been tracking 2:1 in favour of it, for the three weeks before that they were in higher for the Xbox One (after their reveal event).
For those of you who know, you know the source, but he would rather remain anonymous to protect his job so I am making the thread on his behalf. I have proof of the source's figures, they are real.

I definitely think it is to boost pre-orders in the UK, France, Germany and Spain, more-so for the UK as it's Microsofts only EU region that outsells the PS3.
Now I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a bold statement. In the US EA have tied up sponsorship with the 3 major sports, NFL, Baseball and Basketball, and in the UK Football. Now MS have said that in the US if you have a fantasy league (I assume EA runs this) as you watch your chosen sport your stats for your league will be updated live in play, this is all part I assume of EA's sponsorship deals.
So if this was to come to Europe etc EA will want the same sort of situation so by giving away copies of FIFA they now can guarantee at least the initial owners of the Xbox will have access to the fantasy league.
Mcdonalds offer Meal Deals to attract more customers, Supermarkets offer BOGOF offers and such to get more customers, places such as Game and ShopTo offer their own bundle deals to get more customers.
When i bought my car last year and they said that they would give me a full tank of fuel for free should i have started shouting 'U-TURN!' at the top of my voice?
You would if they took your wheels away and insisted you have a sunroof when you wanted AC
I don't think people are objecting to a free game (if they are, well that's just ridiculous), but to the claims that this bundle was planned from the start and not a reaction to unfavourable pre-order numbers/consumer backlash.
Personally I'm highly sceptical of those claims, but I'm happy for those who'll be getting a free game out of it.
Elaborate
Er, No. If we are going to carry on with this then i wouldn't buy the car. I'm not forced into buying it.
I saw the car, i liked how it drove, i saw all the details and just before i signed the dotted line, the nice chap hit me with a free tank of fuel.
Anyone would think you were being held at gunpoint to buy the Xbox one the way you're saying it.
Microsoft should have (once again) kept their mouth shut. There's nothing to be ashamed of in adding extra products to gain more custom.
To be fair to MS, the comments didn't actually come from them. The guy referenced in the EG article is an EA employee.
I think Wales' point is Microsoft are b*llsh*tt*ing to cover their tracks.
They are still not been honest about the "Big picture".
I'd be surprised if, after all the u-turns, that they will be able to launch this year. Effectively they are having to change how their console works due to the backlash and their 180s.
Shame really.
What big picture?
What is it you want them to say exactly?
I'd like them to say that they love me and give a big cuddle.
For example " We're sorry to our loyal customers about our launch so far and we have heard you and listened to our consumers so as a token of appreciation for you loyalty Xbox One will launch with etc". Instead of "oh we were planning it anyway" which is complete nonsense.
Or maybe not!!
....
it may not be a reaction to E3. But common sense tells me they are in a panic (In Europe at least) about their preorders.
If it was "going on a long time" why not mention it sooner? You would think MS would have had this ready for E3, it would have seriously been a huge crowd pleaser and could have been used as a way to deflect criticism about higher price, and no preowned games.
What do Americans get? Surely Microsoft would have had a version for America if this was in the works. Madden or NBA or something. I mean American is their biggest customer base isn't it?
couldn't agree more, if this one planned from day one, then at E3 they would of ended with the price and the reveal that killer instinct and fifa 14 are free
holding has achieved nothing, except making them appear desperate whether they are or not
Chop if this was all lined up don't you think they would have had a joint announcement? Id say US gamers must be wondering where their free game is? Unless of course its the soften the blow of a delayed release in Europe.
