I'm happy with 22nd, as after the reviews I was expecting to struggle, but I knew it would do well with people who like their gritty ballads (if that is such a thing), but to miss out on the top 20 after countback is a bit disappointing, but nevermind it's a good start to the year.
Very happy with the winner, my 12 pointer and much preferable to the overrated Indila, it's grown on me slightly since being entered in DSFE but it's still seriously overrated, shame Helene couldn't have made 2nd.
Woo 27th! I thought more people would like Metisse as the song reminds me a lot of Urban Symphony and poor Sandra! I was saddened to discover the song was used in a rubbish Madonna film. I know it from the wonderfully brilliant TV show that is Dead Like Me!
Better luck in the next heat!
I didn't enter the latest ESC as I'm not 100% whether I'll get a chance to vote, but will still make the effort even if I don't have one.. I notice Moje 3 in that playlist.
Dear god I really hope Suzy doesn't win. I never did get where all the sudden love for her came from when absolutely no one was talking about her before the contest and her live performance in the semi was pretty average in all honesty.
Gutted Hanna Pakarinen isn't on the list, would have been 12 points guaranteed from me!
Suzy - Quero Ser Tua (Portugal 2014)- It's Portuguese so perfection naturally. Next
Soluna Samay - Should've Known Better (Denmark 2012)- Drab song and she looked dirty on stage in my opinion.
Joy Fleming - Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein (Germany 1975)- Gave me a win in the best of the 70's contest. Can it do the double?
Sofi Marinova - Love Unlimited (Bulgaria 2012)-Dressed like a chav that won big on a scratchcard but you just gotta love a bit of Sofi.
Chiara - What If We (Malta 2009)-The weakest by far of her 3 entries so underrated? I think not.
Liliane Saint-Pierre - Soldiers of Love (Belgium 1987)-Nice to see the 80's represented but this was one of the weakest from 1987.
Neiokõsõ - Tii (Estonia 2004)-Better than colonic irrigation at least.
Natália Kelly - Shine (Austria 2013)-Really? The only good thing about this was her jeans. Piss poor song.
Kaliopi - Crno I Belo (Macedonia 2012)-Fierce mother. Fine song.
Mariza Koch - Panagia Mou, Panagia Mou (Greece 1976)-Yay more from the 70's! Not exactly Joy Fleming but an honest Greek sound from a "fine great maid" as my Nan would say.
Who See - Igranka (Montenegro 2013)-I'm over 40 and get introduced to dubstep. So much better than their dull 2014 entry. Lovin the space dudes.
Nucha - Há Sempre Alguém - (Portugal 1990)- Musical notes on her frock, greasy hair and appalling vocals. Hey it's Portugal. Perfection.
Firelight - Coming Home (Malta 2014)- Not so much underrated more a slow burner. I do love this though.
Dana International - Ding Dong (Israel 2011)-Ding don't. Awful
Rita Guerra - Deixa-me Sonhar (Só Mais Uma Vez) (Portugal 2003)-The voice far superior to the tune.
Moje 3 - Ljubav Je Svuda (Serbia 2013)-Dressed by Helen Keller but an insanely infectious melody.
Sergio Endrigo - Marianne (Italy 1968)- Just Mmn.
Malene - Tell Me Who You Are (Denmark 2002)-Overrated in scoring at all.
Rita - Shara Barkhovot (Israel 1990)-Lesley Joseph could've been her mother. This is a performance people.
Olta Boka - Zemrën e lamë (Albania 2008)-One of Albania's drearier entries.
Anastasiya Vinnikova - I Love Belarus (Belarus 2011)-I love in tune vocals more. Not bad.
Enrico Ruggeri - Sole d'Europa (Italy 1993)-Not sure many stayed for song 2 after this but still better than many here.
Maywood - Ik Wil Alles Met Je Delen (Netherlands 1990)-Not overrated just totally f***ed over from the sublime version sung at the Dutch final.
Magdalena Tul - Jestem (Poland 2011)-See above. Appalling ESC performance.
Nadine Beiler - The Secret Is Love (Austria 2011)-As I've said before. One of the most note perfect vocals ever heard at Eurovision.
Mandinga - Zaleilah (Romania 2012)-Ew.
Hersi - One Night’s Anger (Albania 2014)- Not a Jem to my ears.
Anna Rossinelli - In Love For A While (Switzerland 2011)-Just like she showed when she qualified. Pants.
Esther Hart - One More Night (Netherlands 2003)-Right result in Riga. Middle of the road.
Jon Lilygreen & the Islanders - Life Looks Better In Spring (Cyprus 2010)-Amazed it qualified at all. Overrated.
Alex Sparrow - Get You (Russia 2011)-Get what?
Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira - Run Away (Moldova 2010)- Not bad. Not Epic.
Iris - Would You? (Belgium 2012)-Bless. I like this too but it's hardly underrated.
Morena - Vodka (Malta 2008)- 3 minutes of musical tits and arse and definately underrated.
Sandra Oxenryd – Through My Window (Estonia 2006)-I just can't see past the enormous blond woman.
Eva Boto - Verjamem (Slovenia 2012)-Pretty song. Frumpy teen.
Svetlana Loboda - Be My Valentine (Ukraine 2009)-Shite.
Making my way through the playlist. Why is Italy 1968 there? According to wiki it finished 10th and one of Foxy's stipulations was outside of the top 10, so 11th or lower...

Well the FM who sent it in persuaded me that because only 17 countries participated in 1968 that would be the equivalent of a song coming 15th in a final of 26 in today's contests. Also worth noting it was a different voting system back then and it's the only entry on the list from before the current voting system was introduced in 1975 so I allowed it. Nobody else asked for an entry from before 1975 so I hope that's ok.

Ah ok, that makes sense and it is the only full on golden oldie I suppose. :)

So could I have entered a song that finished 7th from a contest before 1975?
I have an innate magnetism for the flops, so I'm well placed to review this one!
(Portugal 2014) Suzy - #SuzyShake Wah wah weh wah weh! Poor Suzy, an eventful Eurovision to say the least, but it just wasn't meant to be. Loved the drunk auntie at a wedding, dancing and the staging was amazing. Loved all the multi-lingual thank you's at the end. Difficult to be too heartbroken since it did mean Valentina finally got her moment. Should've finished 4th.
(Denmark 2012) Soluna Samay - Like musical vanilla. It's alright, but not very exciting. I still don't understand the styling, the Danish budget must've dried up by then! The end result was about right.
(Germany 1975) Joy Fleming - Almost criminal how low this finished, should've been top 10.
(Bulgaria 2012) Sofi Marinova - How on earth did Sofi lose out to that Eric Sa-day-day wannabe! Funny, but annoying when he ended up last on the night. A song to unite Europe with all those languages, plus a jiggle-woo combo. Should've been runner-up.
(Malta 2009) Chiara - Probably brb's entry. Better than 1998, but not as good as 2005. Didn't really rate this much higher than its actual placing amongst the class of 09, sorry Chiara fans.
(Belgium 1987) Liliane Saint-Pierre - The ghost of Eurovision past (Wogan) to start the video! Some great choreography, especially from Liliane's guitarists! Should've been top 3.
(Estonia 2004) Neiokõsõ - Ticks all the boxes. Dying language, half-arsed choreography, dressed for a pagan sacrifice. Jeez 2004 was bad, this should've been 3rd.
(Austria 2013) Natália Kelly - Might be a nice outfit for a night on the town, but this is Eurovision love. Should've qualified, but there were many better songs that year. Prefer it to RLAF, *ducks from brb slap*
(Macedonia 2012) Kaliopi - Macedonia have a knack for uncovering the mentals! She had no lager and a naggy deli, but boy could she hit those notes! A great personality too. She should've been 6th.
(Greece 1976) Mariza Koch - Great voice, should definitely have been top 5.
(Montenegro 2013) Igranka - Now we're talking! I did really like this at the time, but fell in love with it more in the last year, (thanks SBS Eurovision). Brilliant staging. Should've finished 6th.
(Portugal 1990) Nucha - Portugal are good at the underrated lark, should've been top 10.
(Malta 2014) Firelight - Ah the Maltese Bumfluff & Sons. It's a shame they didn't dress up a bit more, (Richard especially). The poppy field staging was good though, if a little cringey with the selfie wall. Should've been top 15.
(Israel 2011) Dana International - Don't like many Israeli entries, but Dana is one of the rare exceptions. Not as good as Diva obviously, but it was still a good dance number and should've been 8th. The shredded mermaid dress was a nice touch as well.
(Portugal 2003) Rita Guerra - Oh Portugal you should've been top 10.
(Serbia 2013) Moje 3 - This must be Euan's! The Serbian holy trinity. Dressing like an x-rated version of Alice in Wonderland really didn't do them any favours. Should've stuck to the original devil/angel theme, at least that was a proper concept. Should've been 3rd.
(Italy 1968) Sergio Endrigo - Well this is dull, in fact pretty much most of that year was so it probably finished in the right place. No wonder Marianne isn't interested, you look like a serial killer.
(Denmark 2002) Malene - Make-up with a paint ball gun and a slashed in half dress. It's like when they get the hooker up to sing in a sleazy bar! It shouldn't have been last, but it shouldn't have been much higher either...
(Israel 1990) Rita - The arty farty performance was overkill, it finished in about the right place. As I said before, I'm not overly keen on Israeli songs.
(Albania 2008) Olta Boka - Another wailing dirge. Finished roughly in its rightful place. Albania 2009 was vastly superior.
(Belarus 2011) Anastasiya Vinnikova - Don't care about the crappy vocals or weird choreography. This was definitely better than the original Born in Belorussia song it replaced. Should've finished 3rd.
(Italy 1993) Enrico Ruggeri - If anything this finished too high!! Truly dire.
(Netherlands 1990) Maywood - This should've been top 10.
(Poland 2011) Magdalena Tul - Not the best vocals, but the staging and styling was good. Should've qualified, but as with Shine 2013 there were many better songs that year.
(Austria 2011) Nadine Beiler - This wasn't even in my top 20 of 2011. Vocal overkill.
(Romania 2012) Mandinga - Good staging and Elena looked stunning. Drums, accordion and bagpipes over a dance beat, musical perfection. Mandinga should've been 3rd.
(Albania 2014) Hersi - Hello Jem! The Albanian Shakira was a grower in the end. Another one that suffered against many better songs, should've been top 20.
(Switzerland 2011) Anna Rossinelli - Criminal that Anna finished last! Should've been top 15.
(Netherlands 2003) Esther Hart - So many fashion crimes. Should've been top 10.
(Cyprus 2010) Jon Lilygreen & The Islanders - This shouldn't have even qualified, let alone attempt to trouble the top 20!
(Russia 2011) Alex Sparrow - This could also be brb or maybe Pandora. They like a bit of the Sparrow! He might look good naked, but Get You should not have qualified.
(Moldova 2010) Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira - Epic Sax Guy! Olia's futuristic **** get up is fab. Should've finished runner-up.
(Belgium 2012) Iris - Typical Glee type fodder. Sorry Iris, I'm glad you tried to help out Molly with your marking, but you shouldn't have qualified.
(Malta 2008) Morena - Always got to appreciate some choreography and Morena sure does know how to strut her stuff. This should've been top 15.
(Estonia 2006) Sandra - Like an Estonian Dolly Parton. Criminal that this didn't qualify. It should've finished 7th.
(Slovenia 2012) Eva Boto - Interesting idea of attaching your bouquet to your wedding dress. Should've qualified, but very little more than that. Many better songs, including Slovenian ones - (Tinkara, Hannah and Rebeka for starters).
(Ukraine 2009) Svetlana Loboda - This is how you stage a song! Hence why Maria Yaremchuk decided to have a hamster wheel of her own. A great end to the playlist, Svetlana should've been 7th.
Thanks for the points you nice people. Absolutely huge hit here at the moment and I think it's due for release in the UK very soon, so you haven't heard the last of this.:p
I was planning to enter Indila until I saw she had been used in the other thread's contest last year and I had Gin Wigmore on my list for the second round, so I've missed out on 2 good results, but I'm not bitter........much.;-)
Portugal 2014 - God, she looked so nervous at the beginning! This was totally the wrong song for her, hearing her singing Quedate Conmigo in Amsterdam proved she was a balladeer and her her vocals didn't get a chance to shine here. Catchy in it's own way though
Denmark 2012 - I hated this song with a passion in 2012, and it turns out that I still do
Germany 1975 - Polar opposite of Denmark 2012, Joy's been bringing it for women of a certain age since 1975. One of my favourite songs of all time, love the slightly mental conductor
Bulgaria 2012 - Didn't get all the Sofi love in 2012, she looks so lonely up there Nice enough, at least it's not Denmark
Malta 2009 - Love the Chiara head wobble thing. Well done for entering the semi final performance, vastly superior to the final one. Still prefer the remix though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im6gsc0v77o
Belgium 1987 - So of it's time, I loved this on the night. Liliane is one strong mamma, and pulling off the that outfit takes some guts. The guitar dancing is epic
Estonia 2004 - I like this, but I don't know if they should be in possession of a bladed article in a public place. It's taking ethnic to another level from what Eurovision usually sees. Would have been better if they could sing
Austria 2013 - Still hate this. I just have to hear "uh-oh" and it gets a skip on my playlist. And what the fcuk is she wearing?! Thank you Austria for putting right in 2014 what once was wrong
FYR Macedonia 2012 - It's all about the strong mature woman this week isn't it? She was quality entertainment on the run up to Bakoooo and I do like the song, but would rather sit down with her and a bottle of gin than listen to it on repeat
Griekenland 1976 - One of my favourite Greek songs from the 70's, it's so bloody Greek it hurts, take note all rappers from Hackney. Mariza's voice is pure and clear and the chorus sweeps along majestically. I think she's singing about bread products
Montenegro 2013 - It seems obscene to go from Greece 76 to this, they couldn't be more different. Nina's vocals were amazing given all that was happening on stage and I wanted this to qualify with a passion, but it was a tough semi
Portugal 1990 - Someone got busy with the coloured cardboard and PVA glue. Some parts of this are fantastic, but she's so flat most of the time it spoils it. What is it about Portugal and presentation, sometimes they get it so wrong! (I wanted to enter Portugal 1988 into this as I adore it, but she looks scary as hell and live just doesn't work )
Malta 2014 - I can't claim this to be underrated as it was in my top three for this year. Richie has the scariest eyes since Anmary, and that t shirt would be a mistake on anyone who's not got a six pack. Still find the official video incredibly moving
Israel 2011 - Nope, still don't like this, mind you, I wasn't a fan of Diva either. Love the basket weave dress and the the drunken auntie presentation. Israel were robbed this year, they weren't in 2011
Portugal 2003 - This will be geeky's entry, I think Rita (and Joy Fleming) are the only women he fancies. Rita's vocals are flawless, but she does look like she's been baked in a fairly hot oven and that hair could do with some conditioner. Song actually works better in English
Serbia 2013 - Aah Serbia, you could do no wrong in my eyes, why did you scupper yourselves with such a bizarre presentation? If they'd just sung this straight, no angel/devil or candy crush outfits I reckon they'd have got through
Italy 1968 - I'm a fan of old things (have you met my husband? ), and Sergio's a competent singer with a competent song, but it doesn't set me on fire (emotionally, not literally)
Denmark 2002 - I always thought the tempo was too slow, it would have been much better faster. Malene was a bit desperate looking too
Israel 1990 - Love this, Rita's crispy hair is a bit scary, but we all looked like that in 1990. Shaky vocals and not a patch on the studio, but she's got a passion lacking elsewhere on the playlist
Albania 2008 - I've always liked this, but 2008 was a tough year and Olta was a little bit young and it showed.
Belarus 2011 - In a direct contrast to an earlier reviewer, I much preferred Born In Bielorussia. Anastasiya sounded appalling and the backing singers were doing very strange things. Deserved non qualifier
Italy 1993 - Another forgotten classic, double leather is not a great look for anyone and you can tell that Enrico thinks he's way above appearing in Eurovision, he almost sneers his way through the song. Wouldn't have been surprised if he was on the first plane back to Venice by song 3
Netherlands 1990 - This was the favourite for the win going in to the contest wasn't it? Can't understand why it did so relatively badly. Would have been a worthy winner, mind you, I hated Insieme, so anything would have been better
Poland 2011 - Gave me hours of fun whispering "Jestem" to random people. I wasn't a fan though and Magdalena's vocals were awful (yes, I know there were sound problems, but even so...) Norway would have been a better pick
Austria 2011 - Again, well done Austria for this year putting right all previous wrongs.
Romania 2012 - Good summery song, and always makes my foot tap. That wasn't a dress though, and I always feel sorry for the 7th member of Mandinga that they had to leave at home
Albania 2014 - No, sorry
Switzerland 2011 - I wasn't a fan, always thought her voice was way better than the song (I even remember posting that very same comment during the Swiss NF's!)
I have no idea what Nipsu hyppii is - but it was a welcome addition to the playlist
Netherlands 2003 - Guilty pleasure alert She was a bit too bronze and the backing singers were a bit manic, but this deserved so much more. If you didn't know this was Dutch, you would say it was Dutch, similar to lots of their other earlier entries
Cyprus 2010 - I thought about entering this, but thought that it wasn't quite right for the contest, I still like it but it doesn't blow me away the way it did back in the day.
Russia 2011 - Ugh
Moldova 2010 - What, not the 10 hour version?? It's not amazing, but has done a great job of promoting Eurovision ever since, so it's worthy in that respect
Belgium 2012 - I find this so dreary, but I did like her voice
Malta 2008 - Travesty of travesties that this didn't qualify, I don't think Morena could have done any more than she did. Should have qualified instead of Croatia
Estonia 2006 - Probably Foxy's entry. Far too much synthetic fabrics on stage here, and possibly hampered by using the guitar intro to "Does Your Mother Know" This and Slovenia should have qualified instead of Ireland and Macedonia
Slovenia 2012 - Beautiful and was robbed, Eva should have qualified and it remains a mystery to me why it didn't. The last 30 seconds are epic
Ukraine 2009 - Did I say epic for Slovenia 2012? If you look up epic on wiki, there's a still of Svetty shaking what her momma gave her, makes Maria's hamster wheel look a bit normal (and don't forget, Svetty had to re-mortgage her flat to afford to put this one for us)
Have we ever had a week where we celebrate good Eurovision songs that were ruined by poor live performance/ staging? Not the genuinely bad songs but songs that had potential in NF/ Studio form that were completely f**ked up on the big stage? I guess Gimmick kinda covered it but the song I'm itching to send (y'all know there was a motive) doesn't have a gimmick but just really bad live vocals. I was toying with sending it this week (although I love my actual choice) but realised it wasn't underrated so much as "deliberately and systematically destroyed".

Anywho, I'd be happy to host a week like that.
EDIT-
Oh, and Anne likes my song
I'd love a week like that. I have an entry in mind already (just hoping it isn't the same as yours!)

Better luck in the next heat!
I didn't enter the latest ESC as I'm not 100% whether I'll get a chance to vote, but will still make the effort even if I don't have one.. I notice Moje 3 in that playlist.
Woooooo! Last place. What a fine way for me to debut! I'm actually quite proud to have unintentionally sent the shittest entry!
I doubt my entry for most under-rated will do much better!
It was fun though. A big well done to Phil for hosting!
Cheers all. Don't moan about this..........You should hear the shit I have lined up for the rest of the year
A point for my newest FB friend ;-)
Filthy vid for 1980.
Congratulations Ross. Loved the runner up though. Thanks for the introduction did's.
Nice hosting Phil.
Gutted Hanna Pakarinen isn't on the list, would have been 12 points guaranteed from me!
Well done all. Love the Euro contests.
@wolfy - Hanna was on my shortlist.
I like how you diss the majority of songs and then congratulate everyone, haha Like a smiling assassin! (my new favourite phrase!).
:D:D:D:D
Well the FM who sent it in persuaded me that because only 17 countries participated in 1968 that would be the equivalent of a song coming 15th in a final of 26 in today's contests. Also worth noting it was a different voting system back then and it's the only entry on the list from before the current voting system was introduced in 1975 so I allowed it. Nobody else asked for an entry from before 1975 so I hope that's ok.
Ah ok, that makes sense and it is the only full on golden oldie I suppose. :)
So could I have entered a song that finished 7th from a contest before 1975?
3rd last?! I may have to go all Silvia Night on your arses!
Thanks phill for hosting, great job and congrats to ESC Ross, you were my 12 pointer so I'm not gonna complain about that
Loving the look of the underrateds, but there's a shocking amount of new songs there but a distinct lack of Indiana Joan
Thanks for the points you nice people. Absolutely huge hit here at the moment and I think it's due for release in the UK very soon, so you haven't heard the last of this.:p
I was planning to enter Indila until I saw she had been used in the other thread's contest last year and I had Gin Wigmore on my list for the second round, so I've missed out on 2 good results, but I'm not bitter........much.;-)
Onwards and downwards no doubt.
If you look up epic on wiki, there's a still of Svetty shaking what her momma gave her, makes Maria's hamster wheel look a bit normal (and don't forget, Svetty had to re-mortgage her flat to afford to put this one for us)
Thank you so much *points* you are the best!
Anywho, I'd be happy to host a week like that.
EDIT-
Oh, and Anne likes my song
Italy 2014?:p
