Alexandra - Top song for funerals

It seems Hallelujah is one of the most popular songs played at funerals

Of course another is My Way and Wing beneath my Wings but a humourous one is Another one bites the dust.

Has anyone else got humorous songs which could be played at funerals

I did see one once on TV where he was a drag artist and at the end the curtains opened and shut for an ovation when the coffin disappeared to Life is a Cabaret.

I'd be glad I was in the box if that was played.

I just heard from a friend that a guy who arranged his own funeral had return to sender played as he went on the conveyer belt and behind the curtains :D

Well considering the song is all about how we can never really conncect with people even those with whom we are most intimate and as death is the final solitary act, it could seem appropriate for a funeral, but only if the deceased had a strong sense of irony. Think most people are probably swept along by the sentimentality of the music without listening to/interpreting the lyrics.

"Highway to Hell" was just played on the radio along with the news report on the same subject...

I know a vicar who cannot stand to hear "Time To Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli because she hears it so much...

Well, she did murder the song so it's only right that it should be played at funerals.

Alexandra's pained, screeching rendition of Hallelujah is enough to make anybody curl up and die.

I'm pretty sure it is! It is a beautiful song though, when sung by Jeff Buckley or even Rufus Wainwright. I didn't like Alexandra's version, but I have to say it was better than the mind-numbingly awful version which U2 did.

    Indeed.

I get depressed just listening to a few bars of that dirge.

Buster Poindexter's Feeling Hot Hot Hot would be a good 'un, especially for cremations.

For burials, Status Quo's Down Down takes some beating.

I know someone who had "Burn baby burn Disco Inferno", at her cremation.

I would like "To where you are", by Josh Grobin.

    I was just thinking about Nelly's 'Hot In Here' ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRgtofyvUIA , & East 17s 'Deep' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_XP7ksgN9k for the same events ! :D

I'm having the Theme From Shaft played at mine when they carry me in and Telstar when they carry me out.

    I've left strict instructions!

I read an article in the DM today about this very subject - the 10 most popular funeral songs, and I must say I didn't like any of them. :o To me they're all too predicatable, cliched and mushy. Apologies to anyone who actually wants any of them at their funeral - no offence.

At my funeral I'd want stuff like this:

The Police, 'Message In A Bottle'
    ABC ,'The Look of Love'
Calvin Harris, 'Vegas' and or 'Acceptable in the 80s'
Paolo Nutini, 'Last Request' and 'These Streets'
    Hue and Cry, 'Mother Glasgow'
    The Corries, 'Flower of Scotland'
    Swing Out Sister, 'Break Out'
The Script, 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'.

    In no particular order!

    What a morbid post!
