Is it all gonna be paywall, or just modern crap? Because I tend to find I don't watch anything more recent than 1995....
Not all of it, unless Google finds YouTube is hemorrhaging money. Uploaders will be able to choose if they place their content behind a paywall and for how much they'll charge. I suspect the neutralising of comments on YT is a way to ensure no controversial or critical comments against content providers who'll be funding YT.
The trolls could easily make up a "real name", so its hardly going to stop or deter them is it?
I suspect it'll make it easier to continually ban someone to deter them from commenting and that the hope is by using a real name, they'll make people less comfortable to make nasty comments under a pseudonym.
Facebook is very strict when it comes to banning, usually to competition entrants like myself, I am now permabanned from FB.
That just made me lol. Numerous raids as a US Navy Seal and yet can't spell the name of their enemy, nor their specialism properly. Seems legit.
The top record in US military history is 160 kills out of a claimed 255, notched up by the late Chris Kyle. I wish these little keyboard warriors could at least do a bit of research beforehand.
Plus, what more can be traced from an IP address? Mine claims I'm in Leeds despite being far far more South than that.

Are you permabanned by your IP address? If not, why not just create another Facebook account?
Come to think of it, they may have simply either unsubscribed to me or shut down their account, (possibly down to the frustration of the changes on YouTube).

I think they use multiple means beyond an IP address to detect previously banned users, some people changed IP addresses when Facebook targeted people entering competitions on their site and loads of people got bans, changed IP addresses and got repeatedly banned under their new account. And quite frankly, after the way they treated me, I wouldn't want anything to do with that website again.

Enter competitions. That's all you need to do. A fair few people got warnings, 30 day bans or even permabans for doing that earlier this year.
No idea, but Facebook banned tons of people for entering them. They never explained their rationale beyond a generic infringement of community rules message those banned got.
But coming back to Google, I suspect getting a grip on the whole trolling within posts as Facebook affords themselves with the example I gave above is one of the reasons why they have made this move. Could also be to shore up comments before the paywall goes up and to get more people recruited to Google+ which had been seen as a joke by many.
Shame you have to use your real name to comment now - won't be happening for me.
No, you don't - I just made a comment on a video with my username. And the only connection between that and my actual name is that they begin with "E".

I entered a competition on Facebook last year, btw!

From what I can see, a truly independent Youtube ID doesn't exist. All logins have been Google *email* (i.e. Google old-style) accounts (as opposed to Google+) for a few years now. However, you can choose to have your Youtube nickname/handle displayed in Youtube as opposed to whatever name you have under Google emails settings (Youtube refer to the latter as your "real name" although it needn't be, of course - it can be changed whenever you want in Google's settings page). Presumably the separate Youtube nickname/handle is not available to new Youtube subscribers, but only to people who had accounts there before Google came in? So all this cack on Youtube about using your "real name" seems to simply mean using whatever name you have under Gmail settings? It's not a verified real name at all... so I am not quite sure where all this is getting them in busting anonymity.
Then on top of all that, there is linking to Google+ which is another step entirely.

I don't think it will, seeing as though the site is completely unmoderated. Although, the uploader can remove comments if they're too offensive towards the uploader. I doubt the uploader's going to trawl through the comments on his/her videos looking for offensive comments towards other posters. Besides, there must be a truckful load of comments under most of the videos. I doubt any of the Google staff will trawl through them looking for anything offensive. The whole change is just pointless and stupid.

I think they're idea is "make them post under their real names and they won't be so cocky". But, like I said, I can't see how these recent changes, and their odd insistence that your Google "name" is your real name, is achieving that.
(That's providing I've understood how it all works correctly. It's even more complicated for me as I have Google Apps too (a sort of MS Exchange Server on the cheap) and the damn thing keeps pushing to link up with that, too!)

All mine are still there
Come on then, spill the beans. How does one go about getting themselves permabanned from Facebook?
