Fantastic. And yet more proof that Lana has no desire to cash in/sell out. This woman could be selling out arenas worldwide but chooses to do a 2 night residency in a cemetery! :D She's a total one-off and should be cherished not ridiculed.
Given her heightened profile, the demand to see Del Rey in concert has grown exponentially. For being among the world’s most popular pop stars of the moment, she’s kept things decidedly small. Instead of cashing in on a lucrative arena tour, the singer’s U.S. dates have been in mid-sized theaters; a spring show in Los Angeles was held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall, which holds just over 6,000 and sold out instantaneously.
That's a really great review. Like how they picked up on playing cemetery was no doubt a bit of a wry response to those that think she is obsessed with death. I know its been said before but its been a such a great turn around for her Stateside. As that review further confirms she's now one of the most in demand live performers over there now and getting great plaudits, just totally in her element doing these intimate evening concerts.
As for those pregnancy rumours, weeeell you can never rule these things out but I don't think so myself. Probably on the imminent horizon, but not quite yet. I think she's still looking for Mr Right at the mo.
She does seem to indicate there's material for the next album ready so it will be interesting to see how that one pans out. There was that rumoured collaboration with electronic music wizard Georgio Morodor. Maybe she didn't feel that was right in the end for this album but maybe the next one?
Absolutely Beeeeautiful!!! I've got goosebumps after hearing that. After months of low(ish) profile its like Lana Christmas all at once. Wow!!! Repeat again just great to see her back on absolute top form doing it for the fans.
Lana did gigs actually in the grounds of the cemetary?! Lol I think that's hilarious and original. I've been to the Hollywood Forever Cemetary (that's the one at the back of Paramount Studios, isn't it?) It's a massive cemetary with a lake and is a very (unsurprisingly) relaxing place to wander around.! I hope Lana does a UK tour soon, I'd love to see her. I'll view these clips when I can get on my computer but it's good to hear she's on top form.
Ah thank-you for that spaceygal, nice bit of first hand info there on what the place is actually like (I had no idea). From what I've read, other bands have played there in the past, but I don't think that takes anything away from what Lana did. It does seem to have been an inspired show both in terms of venue and performance.
But I quite liked how they finished that article saying:
Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey can still be seen on a full moon night, wandering the graveyard and looking for her lost love (the rockin' tombstone of Johnny Ramone). A blessed Samhain unto us all.
Ooo and just add to that I'd not realised she's singing the whole of Cruel World (rather than just a snippet of the tune) these days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeVe7yVfUeg
Absolutely awesome stuff and what a way to start the show!!!
I bloody LOVE what I've seen of the Hollywood Forever concerts! How I would love a full length, HD video of it. It was an absolutely gorgeous, perfect setting for Lana with a great crowd and it's among the happiest and most relaxed I've seen her look on stage. I wish more than anything I could have attended in person.
Please, Lana, come and perform in the UK soon. I need to see you!
Glad you enjoyed it as much as me Wuthering! Totally spot on sentiments and I agree with you when you say that she was back to looking at her happiest and most relaxed on stage. Lana relaxed and happy=pure vocal tour-de-force.
Wouldn't it be nice if they were were filming it to be released as a DVD/Blu-Ray eh? Can but dream.
You know what, I actually quite like it now I can see it all in full. They've clearly modeled it on how Lana performs live and its a weird sort of tribute. See a bit of the old David Lynch Twin Peaks style running through it too.
Hats off to Jessica Lange for being up for singing it too some wonderfully bizarre performance she put on.
Just further, further, add to that, Jessica Lange's performance of Gods and Monsters seems to have seen the original Lana version go into the US itunes charts around the no.42 mark as I write this.
Very similar deal to what happened when Eastenders used it on their trailer earlier this year over here.
Once again shows if people actually get to hear Lana's songs we see instant converts suddenly emerge.

Have you seen her perform Shades of Cool for the very first time on the 2nd night of her Hollywood Forever show:

And yes roll on that UK tour pretty please!
Oh and James Franco looks like he's still trying to prove himself as Lana's Mr Right:

And it also just seems so appropriate to link her singing Born to Die for this show:

Here's another really cool fan video, this time in striking black & white of her singing Blue Jeans:

And just finish by mentioning...although I'm not sure if I should mention it... Jessica Lange covering Gods and Monster's on US TV's aptly named American Horror:
