I work for a small firm, there are 4 partners and 4 other members of staff.
Had a meeting yesterday where Christmas bonuses were decided - or lack of. This year staff are getting £ 250 vouchers because we have not had such a great year. I accept things are not great and anything is better than nothing.
Just now been handed details of the partners bonuses - I deal with the finances - £25,000 each and that is after tax! So they are getting more than normal and the staff much less!!
Wow so motivated!! I am grateful for my job and am not struggling. I accept the partners are the business owners and have taken all the risks but just think this disparity is unfair!!

Be thankful for your £250 and that you didn't get the Christmas sack. I haven't even been invited to the works do or the Christmas dinner meal at the local pub because I am a contractor.
Start a business then. Jeez, some people...
Getting £250 worth of vouchers on top of your salary for Christmas is unfair? Why's that then?
I do understand it seems unfair the bosses get more but they take the risks and put up the money for the company to start up. If we all did the same we could all award ourselves more but until we do that's how it is and a £250 christmas present really isn't something to feel bad about some people don't get anywhere near that - I am looking forward to my pot plant and box of chocolates from my boss.
Perhaps the owners might remember that they wouldn't have a business at all without the people who work for them?
No one gets rich on their own.
Umm should I fall for the bait.
They have been given £250 worth of vouchers, a generous gesture.
Well as I said I am grateful but what seems unfair is that partners bonuses have gone up 20% whilst staff's bonuses have gone down 75%.
I have worked in the private sector (a bank, just high street clerk), the public sector (Local Authroity) and on the borderline (University) and in over twenty years of working life I have never once received a Christmas Bonus.
If I therefore divide up what I believe to be fair and unfair your bonus is in the unfair camp, but not for the reasons you would hope
Generous my arse.
This story just sounds like everything that's wrong with the modern economy. The owners of capital get rewarded for failure, while who work hard to make them rich get the crumbs from the table.
As I said, start a business and then you can award yourself whatever you like as a Christmas bonus.
Given they've paid themselves £25,000 despite not having a very good year, it seems they could afford to pay more, yet choose not to out of personal greed.
£250 to spend is more than some people earn in a week. How much do you think employees, who take none of the risks, put up none of the capital, and probably go home to their lives after their 8 hour day whilst business owners work into the night to ensure longevity of trading should get? This isn't some multinational corporation, so get down off your socialist high horse.
My heart bleeds for you. Get a life and stop coming on DS winding people up.
I've no idea about that companies finance and won't make comment based on a disgruntled forum post by someone upset their Christmas bonus is lower this year.
It isn't the best time period in which to throw the toys out of the pram because the bonus is lower than expected when so many are struggling to find work.
Or maybe they should employ people who are more thankful.
Don't forget to check with the tax man whether you should be declaring this £250 gift on your tax returns.
Ring them on 27th December...they'll be working...will you be?
Wealthy businesspeople wouldn't have businesses at all without people working for them.
I'm off to Marks n Sparks today to spend it with gay abandon.
