Picked this up on an £1.99 lead-in to a part works promo.

Awful.

Terrible scripting, repeated deus ex machina, mild peril.

Jesus, I was so glad I read 2000AD rather than this arse gravy.

I'm going to drop it off at the charity shop.

You mean the Kurt Busiek and George Perez Avengers story from 1999?

If so I'd have to strongly disagree. I'm not sure what you mean by deus ex machina either. I can't think of anything in the story that qualifies as that. The heroes win by their wits and force of will and things. Also I'm not sure if a country being wiped out is "mild peril"
