Kids hanging outside our house,,, Driving us maaaaaaad!!!
We have been living in our lovely home for over a year now. And over the last week we have had half a dozen teens hanging outside our house playing football and just hanging....they are makinga lot of noise and its quite intimidating having them out there TBH,,
I dont really want to go out there ranting and raving cos Im sure this will make it worse..However I need a solution
Its only been this last week so Im not sure if its just a half term thing or its gonna be a new hanging spot for them...
Im ripping my hair out here

No they arent doing anything atm,,
They were great about it, they explained that they hung around outside my house because there was a street lamp and they could see what they were doing.
I'm pretty sure that if I'd gone out ranting and raving at them I would have had all sorts of problems. I think in general these kids are okay, they just don't have anywhere to hang out these days.
Your comment of "not doing anything at the moment" assume that they will be doing something soon.
Kids are kids. Let them be that way. Don't assume that all kids will be a problem just because they are "hanging".
When I was younger me and my mates used to just "hang" on the street. Did no one any harm.
So, when they start kicking the crap out of your car/property, then you have every right to whinge...until them, let them have thier fun....and stop being a NIMBY.
Have a chat with your 'neighbourhood bobby' or the pc who's patch covers your street.
Seems the obvious solutions!!
Nah thats just me being cynical given whats happened here in Liverpool over the last 12-18 months!!! (and to be honest all over the country!) No respect!!!
If there isn't shelter available then they wont be hanging around much longer, and there's not much you can do about it if they are just on the street except maybe go and have a quiet word if you think they are approachable.
I sometimes think that kids become a problem because they are seen as a problem - if they're going to get tarred with that brush, they may as well have the fun for it - if you catch my meaning.
only thing you can do is call the police and ask them to move those kids along. We have been through it all the last number of years including my dad getting assaulted in his own garden!
Play Frank Sinatra songs to them.
They probably don't even realise they are causing a problem. Go out and talk to them, ask them if they could keep the noise down after a certain time, just be pleasant and I'm sure they'll respond favourably.
Errm - if they are not doing anything in particular, then what exactly would you expect the police to do
After 30 minutes of doing your impersonation of Ron "Chopper" Harris you can retire to your home knowing that you had some exercise and got rid of an unhealthy hatred towards our younger generation by getting to know them, all in the name of sport.
I'd look about one of them
If you really cant put up with it go out and have a civilised word , there is no point in going out shouting though it wont work:p:cool:
You obviously have never had a group of kids hanging around outside your house? I get it all the time. They sit on my wall, talking and shouting, young girls screaming, throwing things at each other, just "having a laugh". They might not be doing anything illegal and may not have anywhere else to "hang", so why don't they go and do it outside their own houses. Because their parents wouldn't put up with it.
I tried the quite word, and it did work for a while. Now I just call the police and the car drives down the road and they move on.
Because, when you can't hear the TV, or your child cannot sleep, or your dog is barking at the window, because a group of inconsiderate people feel they have the right to disturb mine and my families peace, then the only option I have left is to call the police.
People are very quick to judge, but unless they are hanging outside your house, night after night after night, then you have no idea what it is like.
If it is only kids hanging and playing football, then why don't they do it outside their own house. Because they know it is annoying and that their parents wouldn't put up with it.
the OP has not mentioned any of those things, you seem to be making an awful lot of assumptions
Yes, thats why they do it, not because they want to play football
Of course that's your only option, heaven forbid that you ask them politely to keep the noise down. After all that would mean treating them with respect. Far better to treat them like criminals...
Tell me about it
They do. If ever they get too loud or it gets too late, I ask them to keep it down.
It was the OP who said it was only hanging and playing football. I see no reason to think that the OP lied.
Maybe some of them do live close by. Two of the kids who play outside my house live next door.
I agree that does seem a little extreme to me, a light hearted chat would be the best way to go. If that doesn't help I'm not sure what one would do next.
People have their limits, a little game of harmless footie outside your house could turn into a few accidental dents in your much loved car sitting on your drive, that would annoy me and would be one of those circumstances where you lose out as I doubt the teenagers would own up or pay for any damages.
My first post on this thread was in reply to someone who thought it was okay for kids to "hang out" and not to the op.
They are an account of my own personal experiences and not a direct comment on the ops situation. Perhaps it was my mistake to do so, but I did.
If you had read my first post you would see that I did go out and speak to them and at first that worked. When that stopped working and after several weeks, night after night, I snapped and contacted the police. They said they would drive down the road, which they did and the kids have since moved on.
These people do not live in my street, or even several streets in my area. I know this because I know some of them. There is a field about a hundred yards from my house, why can't they play football there. Most nights they would sit on my wall talking and shouting, until about 11pm. If this was acceptable behaviour, then why did they not "hang" outside their own house, because they know it is annoying and their parents would not put up with it.
We had a lot of kids hanging around the back of our flat last year, they weren't doing anything untoward, just making a lot of noise, which is extremely annoying night after night. I ended up sticking my head out the window one night (I had a splitting headache ) and asking them to keep it down a bit . They couldn't have been more apologetic and were quiet as mice afterwards.
They seem to have moved on to pastures new now and sadly they've been replaced by a gang of (adult) junkies who regularly kick the front security entrance open at all hours, then sit in our lobby shooting up, shouting and damaging things. We've called the police numerous times but it's rare they actually come out.
