The investigation took years and a huge amount of police resources as well as taxpayers money spent on the Leverson inquiry. And the outcome? Coulson gets 18 months of which he'll probably only serve 9 at the most. What id the point?

I'm sure it won't be an issue for Coulson, as he will be surely expecting for prison to be like these holiday camps that the NOTW and Sun always portray them to be.

    Coulson - 18 months

Former chief reporter Neville Thurlbeck and news editor Greg Miskiw - six months

Former reporter James Weatherup - four-month suspended sentence

Former private investigator Glenn Mulcaire - six-month suspended sentence

Weatherup and Mulcaire also received 200 hours of community service.

The judge gave really harsh punishments ;)

Here we go. Endless streams of people demanding a longer sentence as they always do with every criminal. Come on guys...they didn't kill anyone, just hacked phones.

I really couldn't give a damn about phone tapping of celebrities and politicians.

The main result is that Rupert Murdoch's 30 year rule over the UK's Prime Ministers came to an end. Murdoch ruled Britain for longer than Saddam Hussein, Mubarak and Qaddafi did their countries.

And all down to Millie Dowler. She was Britain's Joan of Arc from the grave. There should be a statue of Millie Dowler outside parliament as the saviour or British democracy. There would have been no fuss without Millie Dowler.

And people criticise God for wanting death sentences for everything.

The offence is conspiracy to hack phones. 18 months sounds about right to me.

Can we now have similar incitements for GCHQ spies for similar activities?

So the judge should consider the cost of an investigation when sentencing?

David Cameron should be ashamed. Where's he hiding?

He's lucky it's all about Rolf Harris at the moment. He won't be on the front page.

I think 18 months is a bit too long. I feel kind of sorry for Coulson that he' shouldering the blame despite the fact that Miskiw took Mulcaire into the News of the World and Miskiw gave him the vast majority of hacking requests and Miskiw continued to get him to work for him after he left NOTW and went up North to work for Mercury Press.

    Indeed the Judge did.

The former Editor and CEO of News International walked off scot free.

His potential release shortly before the general election could prove interesting.

Camerons career in Parliament is in tatters anyway now. But he'll qaudruple his income once he writes his 'memoirs' or dons a dinner jacket for a few after dinner speeches.

Brooks on the other hand will spend the rest of her life looking over her shoulder.....and with good reason too!

    Read the judges comments themselves
It addresses many of the points we have made on this thread
