Hi All,

I am in the process of organising a funeral, I wanted to put a couple of cd's together for some background music at the wake ( its at the church hall FYI)

Any one got suggestions of songs that are appropriate for the wake??

Thank you kindly

Rick

I think it's common form to play music that the deceased was into.

It should really be something personal.

I've told everyone I know that I want Nick Cave's 'Death is not the End' at mine (Cover of a Bob Dylan song) but that's probably not appropriate for your loved one. But I bet there is a genre of music they did like.

If all else fails, FlyinBrick''s suggestion isn't bad.

    Sorry for your loss.

Play something the deceased would have enjoyed.. a piece that meant something to them.

I've already decided on the music for my funeral when my time comes.

It's going to be Who Wants to Live Forever and Teo Torriate by Queen.

Very good choices if I do say so myself.

I've requested Lily of the Valley by Queen, and Eight Miles High by the Byrds.

At my friend's funeral, we had a single Bob Dylan song play straight after the family eulogies and then a mix CD of other favourite songs of his.

We also had a banging party in the evening at the family's express wish as my friend was dearly loved by all, and they wanted everyone to have as good a time as possible as they felt that would be the most appropriate tribute to him.

But yes, I'd definitely go along with the deceased's favourite music as background.

Friend's wish at a crematorium was Johnny Cash "Ring of Fire".

"You Raise me Up", but seriously "Time to Say Goodbye". But as others have said it's usual to play music that they liked/listened to.

i'd personally play a selection of classical music as people are ariving.

i think queen another one bites the dust is rather insensitive choice, given the circumstances

Whenever there is a discussion on funeral songs, someone always says this. Or Elton John's "I'm Still Standing".

It gets funnier every time I hear it.

I want a wake when I die. Well, not for me to attend obviously :o but I love the idea of it. Money behind the bar, a buffet and good music. Especially as I dislike funeral services with popular music choices. So hymns and classical stuff at the actual funeral then a good old party later.
