Legendary reggae presenter David Rodigan has resigned from Kiss after Bauer's continual marginalisation of the Reggae genre on the station.

Another one for Mi-Soul when it launches, perhaps.

Agreed or a specialist show on Jazz FM. There's also the possibility of Rinse FM at a stretch who I'm sure would love his services despite catering to a youth audience.

It appears to be a gap that's not filled.

BBC London a weekly specialist show, perfect audience
. His Radio 2 shows were just brilliant.

The last original Kiss presenter and something close to 35 years on London radio (Capital from 1979-90 and briefly BBC Radio London before that).

Specialist music shows have already been cut to the bone at BBC London and that was already before DQF was implemented.

Currently it's down to Jazzie B on Fridays from 8-10pm which is either going to be moved or axed for the Mark Forrest networked show from Leeds.

Saturdays is where the rest are, Gary Crowley presents the nostalgia slot from 12-2pm and BBC Introducing from 7-10pm.

Managing Editor David Robey has already said that BBC London is a predominantly speech station and I can't see that changing, although Rodigan would be an excellent signing.

Is he sick of playing the same songs every two hours? Good on him, hope he enjoys a more fulfilling show somewhere else.

He had free reign on his reggae show, but the show was shunted to anti-social slots.

However here's a scoped aircheck from AircheckDownloads.com from 1999 when Emap took full control of the station and made him play mainstream crossover dance and RnB.

No, he had a daytime show on Kiss for many years, that's what that aircheck is. He did Lunchtimes, drive and Breakfast over the years aswell as his specialist show.

The point being is that after Emap took over, the playlist changed and had to play pap like that which was THIRTEEN years ago! Re-listen to the first link.

"The station, which is owned by Bauer Media, said it remained "passionate about broadcasting a brilliant cross section of music genres, including reggae"."

    :o

Funniest thing I've seen all year.

I won't be surprised if Rodigan's slot will only just play upfront bashment with a yoof presenter.

This is going to sound terrible:o I clicked on the link and I have known of him since his capital day, can't say I have ever listened to his show, but heard it in passing - I till this day thought he was black:o

Can't say I'm surprised that Digital Spy posters would assume that only a black DJ could possibly love such a form of music so passionately ...

Sorry to hear that kiss has gone downhill now with all that r&b crap. Butvi guess the younger chavs like the station. Long live the days of local stations and our local vibe fm. Sadly radio is getting pants now and internet stations seem the best choice these days .

Your spectrum is about the width of a Tube tunnel, isn't it? You really shouldn't assume the majority of people have similarly puerile taste.

    I love this bit:

He is a multiple winner of Sony radio awards but was moved to a midnight slot on the Bauer Media-owned station, in order to accommodate a show hosted by the singer Craig David.

That's commercial radio's idea of specialism, folks! What a vacuous, braindead industry.

While I agree that moving Rodigan for Craig David is wrong, it's wrong of you to tarnish the whole commercial radio industry which for some brands still have specialist music shows for the actions of the Kiss PD and Bauer management in this instance

That's from his drivetimeshow as I said, not his specialist show... Whilst at Capital Rodigan covered many daytime slots too.

Turns out its 1Xtra and another 13-part series on Radio 2. The new 2-hour Sunday evening show on 1 Xtra starts 17 February.
