Despite thoroughly enjoying Casino Royale and Skyfall I've felt the Craig-era has lacked a true 'Bond villain' (and henchman for that matter). Will be very interesting to see how they update the most iconic and traditional villain in the series' history...

The Craig era also lacks a true "Bond" .
Skyfall (which i loved) was only so great because the previous two were terrible Bourne Identity clones.
Bring back the diabolical villain, giant laser, the sexy girls and the gadgets..
Just been thinking about the return of SPECTRE, and then I realised something that has been in our faces the whole time. We've had SPECTRE in two of the past three films. Just under a different name.
For anyone who knows anything about the Bond novels, would know in the original Casino Royale novel, Le Chiffre and Mr White worked for SMERSH, the villain Russian organisation that in the 1963 From Russia With Love film, starring Sean Connery, would be renamed SPECTRE.
Due to the franchise losing the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE to Kevin McClory and the legal battle that ensued, leading to the franchise regaining the rights in 2013, they could not use SPECTRE and Blofeld in the films. However, it is obvious they needed a replacement, and even so, just a new name for the organisation, but still keeping the key members in the novels outside of Blofeld active in the films. This is where I think they decided to rename SPECTRE into Quantum, with Le Chiffre and White, alongside Dominic Greene working for Quantum.
I think Broccoli and Wilson knew somehow they would win the rights back to SPECTRE and Blofeld, thus they made Bond 24 into the return of SPECTRE, with the events of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace surprisingly linking in to it when the film is released. So Bond would find out that in fact Quantum never really existed as Quantum, but was instead SPECTRE in disguise, with Blofeld still lurking in the background, but Bond never realised, which brings thought to White's line in Quantum of Solace 'we have men everywhere, and you don't know a thing about us'.
In summary, I think its been a massive well constructed master plan from Broccoli and Wilson right from when they decided to make Casino Royale in 1999.
Hmmm, not sure what to make of this - the return of SPECTRE - that is. I thought that we were meant to be in a new era for Bond.
I like Craig as Bond - and thought that Casino Royale was a good reboot. QoS was a pile of **** - not helped by the writers' strike I know. Skyfall - whilst it had its good points and was a sort of return to form, it is a bit overrated - it quite flawed in places.

I always felt the Mr White thing didn't reach it's full potential so you're probably right.
Bond: Shrek
Villians: Colonel Saunders and Ronald MacDonald
Location: Horneytown, North Carolina
Plot: Shrek wants Subway
Bond Car: Station Wagon
Bond Girls: Susan Boyle and Lizzie Valaquez

It's been reported that Jesper Christensen - who played Quantum operative ‘Mr. White’ in CR and QoS - is returning for SPECTRE. Which does suggest some sort of Quantum/SPECTRE deal going on.
I thought QoS was great, btw. Bond thumping the baddies in sunny locales - what's not to like?
Bit late to the party on this, but looks good - love the title (bit of trivia: 'Spectre' was a considered title when Fleming was writing the screenplay for 'Thunderball' with those other two geezers), poster is simple, but brilliant, the cast is top banana, Daniel Craig is back, the plot sounds interesting, looks like loose ends from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace will be tied up and it has both Christoph Waltz and Lea Seydoux in
Not keen on the new car though - looks like a spoon.....
Craig was brought in to reinvent the Bond role, the character becoming a little more serious from some of the previous incarnations such as Moore and Brosnan.
I think we saw a little more humour creeping in to Skyfall and Craig himself has admitted that he would like a little more humour in to the films

Spectre looks pretty humourless from the teaser trailer; I really hope it doesn't continue the cod-psychoanalysis of Skyfall. I don't want to know about Bond's childhood!
It will be interesting to see what his relationship with M is like now M is male again and closer in age to him.
Is Felix Leiter in this one? As I recall, he was in Casino Royale but they rebooted him (i.e. he didn't have the leg amputation).

SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion
which was just terribly klunky .
As well as a slight giveaway to the authorities that they might be up to no good.
Probably not but it was never a requirement for Bond songs to share the same title anyway

According to Sam Mendes the singer has already been chosen, but won't be revealed.
I predict Sam Smith - the male Adele. In fact it's kind of too obvious, but that's my prediction.

Only the small matter that it appeared to have been edited by someone with a hyperactivity disorder.
At least Mendes and his team allowed the scenes in Skyfall to breathe, even the action ones.
Not keen on the new car though - looks like a spoon.....
LOL! The action scenes in QoS do have a "WTF just happened" quality to them.
I think he is signed for another after Spectre.
Still I guess the other titles (Casino Royale, Quantum etc) revealed elements of the plot too....
Hope so I think he's been a very good Bond
Hmm, what rhymes with Spectre?
Protector?
Hector?
Lektor?
Phil Spector?

Casino Royale was a reboot in itself; there is no continuity from the previous 20 films. Craig's Bond exists entirely within his own timeline.
