I have no idea, it doesn't go into any more detail than that, but yes I suspect it was probably nothing more than just a sandwich.
I would have wanted it to be a ham or tuna sandwich at the very least! :(

No, that's not right at all. Anyone who is hard up, struggling or in poverty is a lazy, irresponsible deadbeat and will never have held down a job.

I disagree. Not everyone who is out of work is like this out of choice. Getting job these days is very hard for some people and others are too ill to work. I think some people do not understand why people are out of work. It is easy to judge others and say they are lazy, when this does not apply to everyone. Yes, there are people who are lazy, but there are also people who cannot find work, or are suffering from an illness, which stops them working.

I cannot believe there are people out there who would want to see a child starve, just because it costs them money. This isn't just for poor kids, it is for all children. I am all for this and happy kids and parents will get this help. Would people rather see their tax money wasted on a statue? I doubt people would moan then.

For those that say it should be income based, please read my situation and tell how that's fair. We waited until we were financially stable before having our children. Stopping at 2 as we couldn't afford a bigger house etc. When I go back to work I have to pay full fees at nursery, actually only coming home with 7 a week at those times. We decide that it's still better than claiming benefits. Our kids then go to school and Britney, Xtina and Blaize get free school meals because their parents are skint. The same parents who have had 3 kids or more, never worked a day, have free rent and Council tax and sit at home watching Sky reruns of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding all day.

I don't begrudge anything that goes to help children, especially with food, one of our basic human rights. We hear so much about children not being fed before school, even recent cases of children being starved to death, and it horrifies me. Yes, I know it's up to parents to feed children but if that's not happening we have to help. There are far more areas where I disagree with my taxes going than this.

    Nice attitude to children.

If you have children do you refer to them as 'it'?

who said life was fair, I remember my dad telling me life wasn't fair at about the age of 7 and to suck it up. Most people on benefits do not get free rent or council tax they normally have to pay a percentage of both nowadays whether they have a council house or not

Think yourself very lucky but also pray that your own circumstances never change. No-one knows what is around the corner. Your partner might suddenly find himself unemployed or either of yourselves could be struck down with a serious illness. Should that happen then please do come back and tell us how lucky you are and how perfect your own wee life still is.

A lovely example of cultural stereotyping there. Well done!

What with the Lib Dems announcing free school meals for the under 7's costing approx £650million, is it right that the taxpayer should foot the bill for this?

Personally I feel if people choose to have kids they should be in a financial position to do so and not reliant on government handouts.

Tommy Sheridan of the Scottish Socialist Party put this idea froward to the Scottish parliament a few years ago and yet the Lib Dems voted against it.

The Lib Dems are a joke of a parry, no policies of their own just happy to tag along and go with what they think people want. Is it any wonder that no one trusts them or to be fair any political party

I think if they do go through with this, it should be like the old days, everyone has school dinners. At least that way it would be more cost effective and the quality will be better.

    Ban the packed lunch.
