Just wondering what people on here thought of her? She was my favourite Hollyoaks character for a while!

Her death was the only good thing about her!

I liked her. Hated that they turned her into a lesbian (because of the unlikelihood that out of a group of 4 friends/people dating - John Paul, Craig, Sarah and Hannah - 3 of them would be gay or bi), it didn't fit her character at all (plus I hated that Lydia they paired her with).

I hate that they killed her off, but the death was well done.

Detested how they turned her from 100% straight to 100% gay

Oh dear, not the response you hoped for, by the looks of things! :D;-)

I thought Sarah was OK, liked her at times, others not so much, played by a good actress. Enjoyed the JP/Craig reveal when she walked in on them! I think it's a shame she was killed off & can't make appearances like Amy!

Was not convinced with her becoming a lesbian after her disastrous relationship with Craig & I actually think it was done for the plot rather than being character lead.

I don't think that's unlikely; people are likely to hang out with people who they feel similar or connected to so might recognise the same internal struggle that they're having.

It was a bit random with Sarah though and I don't think it really added anything.

From first to last episode I hated Sarah. Everything about her annoyed me. The least convincing coming out ever - she went from being completely straight to being a lesbian but not just being a lesbian, going out with the least feminine lesbian the shows ever had - nothing like Zoe who was her "sexual awakening".

Her death was amazing but she was always a self righteous and selfish cow.

I'm not convinced Sarah had an internal struggle. We all tend to hang round with people we feel a connection with. Feel on the same wavelength etc..

I think the only reason she became gay was because the producer thought it a good idea as a plot point, it wasn't character driven & seemed to come out of nowhere.

People on here moan that characters in HO act out of character. Sarah at the end was a complete different character then to who she was introduced as. It was awful! How can someone have no idea she's a lesbian for so long! Least with Craig it was just John Paul who he was attracted to not all males - that made it more realistic. But Sarah was never once in denial, she slept with Zoe and turned into a lesbian!

Pairing her up with Lydia what on earth was that? The style of Lydia also just seemed like a steryotype lesbian to make things even weird! Out of all the gay SL's HO has done least they've tried (with Doug, Ste Brendan, Vincent) to justify it where it's made sense. But with Sarah she just tuned into a lesbain over night!

    It was highly unlikely, statistically.

And Sarah turning 100% lesbian proves that HO could be really stupid and plot-driven also in other eras, and not just now.

You say this but... When I was at university I had a core friendship group of 9 people, during the three years of university 5 of us came out as gay, to some people it would have seemed to be "out of no where".... A few years after university another came out and married her girlfriend, so that was six out of nine.

Furthermore my core friendship group at school/sixth form consisted of 7, 3 of which have came out as gay. Two of which had long term opposite sex partners during their late teens.

I do however agree that Sarah seemed to go a personality transplant.

For me the unconvincing thing was she didn't question her sexuality. Craig did and really struggled. Sarah was boy MAD and then slept with a woman and was out and out guy. No boys. No questions. All about the lady bits.

They both get tremendous praise but I thought both her and Emma Atkins had some absolutely dire scenes, the actresses were dire (IMO of course)

    Emma...Rigby?!

That group of characters worked, their successors just didn't didn't have the acting chops (most notably Sasha Valentine who was given far too many stories for such a light weight actress)

Yeah apologies I meant Emma Rigby (not my lovely Charity!). I was never convinced of her performances. She received praise for her anorexia storyline but despite her appearances since then I still find her acting capability to be limited (IMO of course) I haven't seen the girl who played Sarah Barnes anywhere else so can't comment but defo found her to have limited skills in HO! Mind you, don't they all?!

I think by HO former standards Emma was good but she was very shrieky and O.T.T when I look back at old clips. She was dreadful in 'Once Upon A Time In Wonderland'

Emma Rigby looked like a porn star in that US show and she's ruined her face too.

I didn't mind her.She was an ok character. Have to agree her turning gay was dumb. Even her night with Zoe came across as them just looking to get viewers. it may have worked if they'd said she was bi. Though I think as Craig was saying he was only attracted to JP and no other men that wasn't going to happen.

I've never understood ŵhy she was "the pretty one" between her and Hannah Ashworth. For my Hannah was much more beautiful.

I was indifferent to Sarah when I used to watch Hollyoaks but her death? That is one TV death was :o along with Yvonne Atkins in Bad Girls.

I'm not saying it definitely can never happen. I'm saying that something like that (or your experience) is statistically not so common.

It's impossible to determine with complete accuracy the incidence of LGBT in the total population (mainly because of people who are closeted), but it's still a minority. According to to recent studies, approximately 3,8% of the US population identifies as LGBT. Even if we take for true the "1 people out of 10 is gay" theory, it's still low percentage.

So situations like that in which in a group there's a concentration of non-straight people is not impossible, but still not so common (at least occuring spontaneously. It's different if we talk about gay people who befriend other gay people).

For example, I live in a little town of 6,000 inhabitants, and there are 3 known gay people. Even taking into account those who may be gay/bi but are deeply in the closet, it seems like a plausible ratio.

But we are talking about fiction, and in fiction they can do what they want.... as long as they do it well. And of course they didn't, with Sarah!! If they had made her fall for Zoe because of her bad experience with Craig (and aknowledge it on the show, as bad as it would have been.. I know lesbians tend to find that kind of stories offensive), or if she had questioned her sexuality a bit after it happened, I could have accepted it. But no, it was like flipping a switch. First man crazy, then BAM! 100% into lady parts with no second thought.

It was painfully obvious that they were at a loss about what to do with the character.

I agree, I never got the praise for Emma Rigby and her acting, she was dire to me, like chalk on a blackboard. I very much preferred Louie Batley/Sarah to Emma/Hannah, but I always seemed to be in the minority.
