Do you know about acrylic embedding?

If you do, I need your help!

I was given a small item at the weekend that I want to turn into a pendant or keyring and I think the best way would be to embed it in an acrylic block.

I've hunted on Google for something like a kids craft set that has the beginners bits and pieces but can't find one. Does anyone here know if I can get one anywhere or will I have to spend about £50 buying far more of the stuff than I'd use in a lifetime?

Or alternatively can anyone suggest either a company/craftsperson who'd do it as a one-off and not want an order of 500 or another way to preserve a small and potentially fragile item?

Lots of people make jewellery as a hobby. Is there a craft stall or market near to you where someone like that might sell their wares?

You could get something like this for around £5: http://www.mbfg.co.uk/casting-resin/1453.html

That appears to include the catalyst for setting the resin. You'd also need a mould of some sort.

Years ago I used to make things like this, though not, frankly, quite as good!

A source of moulds (and of casting resin too): http://www.resin-supplies.co.uk/Casting%20Moulds.htm. I seem to recall that very shallow castings of say less than half an inch in depth don't set all that well, but I'm not sure of that.

Perhaps give this lot a ring - they may know the answer. Doesn't look like they do this but they might know a man who can

That looks promising. Judging by this page I think they will do encapsulation to order, which I think is the same as embedding.

Thanks for the replies, especially Sigurd :)

That's just what I'm looking for. I'm going to have a good browse at the moulds later this evening because I'm sure there's one there that will be the right size for what I want.
