Same here! That and his half-asleep face when he's trying to be sensitive.

The first time he called her L I thought he said Kel. I thought he had called her by her real name by mistake and they had not edited it out.

The people who watched the Xmas episode with me were confused as to whether she was Elle or Linda :)

Yes, and it's sort of a pet name between lovers. Sometimes friends have nicknames for each other in the same vein. I once had a friend called Julie and I always called her Ju.

The correct pronunciation is Aitch, not Haitch.

Yeah I know a couple of people who we refer to by their first initial rather than their full name.

This is the sort of thread that bugs me. No offence meant to anyone, but surely this is a question that could have just been asked on any of many other existing threads? Did it really warrant a whole new thread?

Or maybe you could just ignore the thread because this is a soap forum and it'll be on the next page and out of your life in about an hour.

So do I, but I have to admit "L" is a bit of a weird one. It jars on the ears a bit. Where as others like "Jay", "Dee" for Denise and "Tee" sound a bit more natural.

Actually, bigger question, why has "L" only just came about?

He called her Linda for the first six months, then suddenly they started to sneak in "L".

I actually thought for sometime that he was calling her "Kell". I thought, that's her real name you fool! :D

Don't read it then! There are plenty of other threads for you to read if you don't like this one. It's a legit thread same as the many others.

EE have a habit of doing this, Zainab was shortened to Z, Tanya shortened to Tan and probably a few others.

I wondered about this for a short while too when he first starting coming out with it and then I realise he was referring to the first letter of her name. I think it is annoying and lazy how people keep on trying to shorten people's names. I remember being bemused when in Brookside, bad boy Barry Grant kept on calling his best mate Terry (which is already a short name) - "TEH"! I thought that one was so stupid that it was actually pretty funny, and still think that! :D

What annoys me is when characters don't use the same pronunciations of their family members' names.

For example, for a long while Cora couldn't decide whether her daughter's name was "tarnya" or "tanya"

Or maybe it should be for leaving? :D I'm not joking about what happened to her but she's done the off twice now and I wouldn't be surprised if she does the off a lot more in future too.

Maybe Mick/Danny Dyer should do a rendition of "Never stop Looking for........Liiinnndddaaa"? An 80's tune if i remember correctly. Maybe Shane Richie might jump on this bang wagon first instead though?
