Another defeat for the ladies in the Hockey - is it a weaker side than the one who played at the Olympics (as GB of course)?

I don't really know, there were only one or two Scots on the GB side in London. It just seems to be fragile morale, once they go behind they can't get back into it.

GB's slalom canoeists made home advantage count over the weekend, finally winning 7 gold and 1 silver medal at the Lee Valley course.

GB's divers continued to win medals in the World Series, this time in Mexico, with 2 silvers and a bronze - Tom Daley got his first silver of the season with a PB score in the 10m platform.

The English Hockey women suffered their 4th consecutive defeat, 1-2 to Argentina. The men took a bit of a shellacking from the old enemy, Australia beat them 5-0. The men now have to beat Belgium in their next match to qualify for the semis, so it is in their own hands.

It's pretty much the same side (England) that won Silver at the Europeans last year (less than 10 months ago!) so, along with Belgium's ladies a complete plummet, in our case from silver to rust in a blink of an eye.

It's not just us, the German women are struggling too, and probably won't make the Semis (they have to play England next - who after a much improved performance v Argentina will be looking to beat them and go into the 9 - 12 games with at least some pride restored).

After the ball looped up off the defender, wasn't it scored anyway but the ump had just awarded the flick? If so, the whinging Belgians got a chance to save a goal which had already been scored? Could be well wrong, the stream I was watching wasn't the best so dunno if the ball went in or past the post.

The European Fencing Championships are underway in Strasbourg - there is a bit of coverage on Eurosport, hidden away around the schedules as the often do. Britain have got a gold medal! James Davis has managed gold in the men's foil.

    http://www.teamgb.com/news/davis-claims-european-foil-fencing-title

The BBC says this was Britain's first-ever gold in this particular discipline, so it looks like the fencers are following in the footsteps of our gymnasts.

The opening weekend of the football World Cup seems to have scared off a lot of the other sports this weekend. Eurosport are also going big on the Le Mans 24 hour race, so not much room in the schedules for anything else.

Hockey World Cup semi-finals and place playoffs. England play the Netherlands on Friday in one semi, Australia v Argentina in the other. Any medal would be good, anything better than bronze would be epic. Unfortunately the ladies can only come 11th by beating Belgium, but I suppose Olympic qualifying points are at stake. All live on Sky Sports.

Canoe Slalom World Cup from Slovenia - after a huge weekend for GB canoeists last week they'll get an idea of how much home advantage they were getting this weekend. Highlights at odd times on Eurosport

Fencing European Championships from Strasbourg - Britain already have a rare gold medal, they'll be trying for team medals at the weekend. Again, highlights at various times on Eurosport.

There's the European Champs in Rhythmic Gymnastics on in Baku, Azerbaijan, but as far as I can see we don't have any athletes going - there's nothing about it on the British Gymnastics website. Perhaps it is like Rugby Union and Rugby League, though.

Also archery from Turkey, and shooting from Munich and Maribor.

More bad news for Non Stanford, last year's World Series Triathlon winner - she has aggravated her foot injury and will now definitely miss the Commonwealths and probably the rest of the season.

More sports to be shoe-horned in over a busy weekend

Another Flatwater Canoe Sprint World Cup, this time in Prague. Saturday morning 11:30 on Eurosport 2

Second Rowing World Cup of the year in Aigbubellette, France. Britain sending a strong team to meet the Aussies, NZ and USA for the first time this season. Live on BBC Red Button on Sunday morning, highlights on BBC2 at 16:00

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rowing/27778784

There are the European Triathlon Championships in Kitzbuhel, but this will probably be non-elite level competitors.

And in fact Alistair Brownlee is going to compete - he has done well on that course in the past.

Not much room to squeeze in non-Tennis and non-Football coverage this weekend. The main event is the Chicago Triathlon on the BBC. Alistair Brownlee won the European Champs on the tough Kitzbuhel course last weekend, so looks like he is back to full fitness.

    Saturday 28 June
Women's Chicago Triathlon, 18:30-20:30, BBC Red Button

    Sunday 29 June
Men's Chicago Triathlon, 22:00-00:00, BBC Red Button

    Busy weekend for Olympic Sports

Hockey - There is the international Investec London Cup, celebrating the opening of the permanent post-Olympic facility at Lee Valley. There doesn't seem to be any TV coverage though.

Sprint Canoeing - The European Championships in Brandenburg, Germany are this weekend. TV Coverage on delay dotted around at odd times on Eurosport

Rowing - World Cup from Lucerne. Also on Eurosport, but live on BBC Red Button coverage on Sunday morning as well.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rowing/28227685

Triathlon - The World Series moves on to Hamburg, Men's and Women's Races on Saturday afternoon and a team race on Sunday afternoon, all live on BBC Red Button and BT Sport. Looks like all the big-name Brits are going to be competing.

    http://www.britishtriathlon.org/news/hamburg-preview_4506

Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Hungary - Coverage of the World Cup series this year has been very bad online, and nothing on TV. However, there will be full live web-streamed coverage of all the individual and team events on the Web.

    http://www.pentathloneu.org/

    An article about British hopefuls.

Watched the Triathlon Men's evet yesterday - goood to see the Brownlees back in form ahead of the Commonwealths. Hope Helen Jenkins is OK for the Games after pulling out yesterday.

The Mixed Relay event today was really exciting - I hope this gets into the Olympics in future as it's an exciting event to watch. They have added it to the Commonwealth Games programme so that should be good.

I think it will - the IOC are encouraging mixed events, like the biathlon mixed relay, the luge team event last Winter. Lots of other Federations are working on them, so presumably they have got the nod already.

I wonder how the French team felt - they finished only 4 seconds behind the winners (GB) even though their second leg racer lost vital seconds correcting an illegal shortcut!

I've got a bit of a backlog at the moment, so am a bit slow on reporting back from last week's action. Just caught up with the Canoe Sprints European championship. A little disappointing for Team GB - a silver medal, for Ed McKeever in the K200 sprint and a bronze for Jess Walker and Angela Hannah in the women's K200 pair.

And another bit of bad news. Helen Jenkins, who looked like a nailed-on favourite for the women's triathlon gold for Wales in the Commonwealths is injured so will miss the event. She'll probably miss the rest of the Triathlon World Series as well - she was well on course for a Top 3 finish in the overall world rankings.

Still have the rowing and modern pentathlon to watch!

The main events this weekend seem to be sports that aren't represented at the Commonweatlhs.

Fencing World Championships from Kazan - Extensive coverage on Eurosport. James Davis took Britain's first ever gold in the European Champs a few weeks ago - if he gets a medal here he will be Britain's first World Medallist since 1965.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/fencing/28294797

Water Sport European Championships from Budapest - Lots of coverage in Eurosport. The British women's team did well to be one of the only 8 teams to get to the finals. Unfortunately we lost our first match 7-9 to Greece - the Netherlands are up today. Hungary are the other team in our group so the Netherlands game is a must-win.

Picking this up again after the Commonwealth Games. Still a lot going on.

Sprint Canoe World Championships - From Moscow this weekend. Live on Eurosport at 08:00 Saturday and 07:00 Sunday. Britain have already won lots of medals in the paracanoeing WC this week, but it'll be tougher in the main event.
    http://www.gbcanoeing.org.uk/gbc/

Archery World Cup from Wroclaw, Poland. Coverage on YouTube
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb467UvO4jRgKxWX1oqtkzA

And the summer ski-jumping season is underway, coverage dotted about the Eurosport Schedule.

Final medal tally for Britain in the World Flatwater Championships was

1 Gold for Louisa Sawers in the 5000m long course
1 Bronze for Ed McKeever in the K1 200m
1 Bronze for Team GB in the K1 200m relay

So a bit down on what we usually get - only a single bronze in an Olympic discipline. Some improvement needed in the next 2 years.

The main event this weekend is the Stockholm leg of the Triathlon World Series. It's the second last event of the year, so crucial for the overall win. For the first time this year all of the main contenders in the men's events are fully fit and competing in the same race - it's likely to be a battle between the Brownlee brothers, the two Spanish contenders, Gomez and Mola.

The women's lineup is less stellar, with a few of the big names out. Commonwealth champion Jodie Stimpson will be going for GBR,

Both races are on Saturday, BBC Red Button.

    11:40 Men's Race
    13:40 Women's race

And Jonathon Brownlee got the win, over his brother in second. The pair of them hammered the rest of the field in the cycling leg, built up a huge lead and made it easy for the run. Intriguingly, the Spanish championship leader Javier Gomez did not finish, so Jonathon has a chance of taking the overall World Series win next weekend in Canada.

Two more big events taking place this week

The World Rowing Championships from Amsterdam.

    http://www.worldrowing.com/events/2014-world-rowing-championships/

Heats, repechages, semis etc during the week are not being transmitted, BBC and Eurosport will have the finals on Saturday and Sunday. GBR's initial target will be to get as many boats as possible into the finals - we managed 13/14 at London 2012. Paralympic events are also being run..

The World Badminton Championships from Copenhagen start today and run till Sunday.

It's live on Youtube but blocked in the UK!

    https://www.youtube.com/badmintonworldtv

Highlights on Eurosport 2 in the evenings.
