Dave Allen was not Jewish he come form a Catholic Country.

And with the catholic church and its abuse claims still in the frame i consider him more relevant today.

He banged on about current stuff she such as religion and hypocrisy.

She Dealt with things already passed.

I still cannot understand however a thread about her and not him.

    I can.

Joan was more relevant. She was still working just 2 weeks ago. Her career was international. Dave Allen has been gone a while and a lot of his material is barely shown .

Joan also moved with the times and embraced celebrity culture and social media. She was a business woman.

Buisiness women or not "Jordan calls herself"" A business women " with all the rubbish that comes with it IE Google Jordan and Peter Andre Pathetic..

Does not matter wether she was working 2 weeks ago or not,i find her funny incidentally.

Just not as bang on as Dave Allen was he took religion right on.

    Despite facing death threats.

And with all the religious goings on in the catholic church today would be even better today then he was then.

If people cannot be bothered to do some research of course Dave Allen will be barely known.;-)

Whenever I see one of these old "audience with" programmes repeated I find myself counting how many of the audience "celebs" are now dead.

He had retired by his 50s, and sadly as a result he fell off the radar.

You can hardly refer to Joan Rivers as Katie Price.

Joan Ricers was pretty much the first female chat show host and female comedian .

She was incredibly popular for her upfront style . She also appealed to all of the demographics . As Dave Allen retired early those 35 and under are not as aware of him.

Well they need do sone research then i was 5 when Stan Laurel Died yet i am still very much aware of their work.

She did have a very upfront style but then again so did Dave Allen.

I did not mean to refer to her as katie price but you mentioned her as a business women which is what Katie Price Calls Herself.

Er Dave Allen was catholic not Jewish did you miss that point.

My big sister got me into Dave Allen.

Wasn't he in the running for Jeff Randall in Randall & Hopkirk Deceased in 1968?

I gather he was under contract to Atv at the time!

I had recorded it, but my v+ box messed up meaning all my recording last night failed for some reason.

I doubt they will repeat it, but just incase does anyone know if they will?

I find myself counting how many of their careers are dead. So many mid-00s Z-listers.

Audience with was fantastic to watch again. Joan was absolutely outrageous, but I was laughing so hard, my sides were aching. Hate talking in the past tense, but she was so skilful at standup and ridiculously quick, the jokes following so fast and furiously, that even when you were thinking what the....!? She was onto another 12 gags! Wonderful energy. Most of the audience were creased up, but the devil in me also loved watching one or two horrified faces too! :D

He doesn't say he's Jewish. He said that Rivers makes jokes about subjects such as the holocaust that Allen wouldn't touch. So far as I know, that's true. I don't recall him joking about the Nazis. He did make jokes about religion, but I don't recall any about Catholic priests abusing the children in their care. Perhaps he did off-air?

Not as funny as the Dave Allen show on BBC2 a couple of weeks ago and not even a thread about it.:(

Dave Allen specialised in religion P-ss taking.

He even got threatened by the IRA in his day.

But his brand of humour would be even more relevant today with the scandals the church has gone through in the last few years.

Joan Rivers was good do not get me wrong.

But unlike Dave Allen she did not take real chances.

    RIP Joan.

But she ultimately had to take much bigger chances because she was a woman.

A lot of people don't like women who are smart and funny and they certainly have problems with women who are crude and offensive, hence why there are very few female stand up comedians in the league that Joan was in.

She was really brave and thick skinned to enter into an anti-woman profession and still have a successful career were as the time she came out a man could just walk on stage and be welcomed without his gender being against him at all.

Taking that on board, there is less for male comics to be criticized for than females, it still happens today. Like with comedy panel shows were they have 5 men on it and one female comedian...were as someone like Joan would take on all 5 and steal the show.

Not that that automatically means she is funny but she couldn't just walk into the comedy World without a heap of judgement so she had to side step her act to spend a lot of time proving she was funny and talented in the early days of her career because of the attitudes of TV execs and society claiming women aren't funny.

Time were I'm sure she would have preferred to go further and sicker with her material.

My first exposure to Joan Rivers was her first "Audience With..." way back in 1983. Loved her ever since.

Ah bless Joan! I've seen this at least three times now, but glad to see it again - she was at her most searing, acerbic and brilliant best here! Aside from the handful of actors from the Bill and old Emmerdale cast (:D) hard to believe it's 10 years old. She really didn't give a ...... Lovely to see Lynda Bellingham laughing her head off. Carol Thatcher mostly looked puzzled. :D

Very funny woman. Acerbic as hell, but incredibly self effacing.
