An airliner flying from France to the USA has been circling over the East of England after developing a technical fault shortly after take-off.

You can see where it's been circling on Flight Radar:

Seem to be a lot of plane issues in the news lately.

Might sound stupid but it always surprises me how many planes there are about
How long has it been circling for?
I'm not sure I trust that radar, I just had a plane flying backwards at near the speed of light.
Must have been circling for hours though.
I'm a terrified flyer and I have a heck of a lot of it to do at the end of the month. Amazing holiday that I'm actually dreading
Slightly confused as to why it was hovering over the UK with many potential airports and decided to fly over to Amsterdam.
While I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation for doing that, in my completely ignorant eyes... if I were on that plane I would be asking why the hell we were buggering off to another country when there are all those airports just down there.
No that was a flying saucer.
Lol, it had wings... It was a plane!
Seriousness; I would imagine it would just moving into the correct place as it loaded in the wrong place, it was kind of amusing seeing it zoom backwards across the globe in about a second flat though
perhaps the pilot fancied a smoke to get over the trauma....
Told my mum about it when my dad flew somewhere last year and she watched the entire flight, bless her.
It might be that Delta have a repair crew at Schiphol, but none at any UK airport. Maybe.
Perhaps it circled to burn fuel so as to reduce the risk of fire if the problem was with the landing gear. Just an idea.
It circled to burn off fuel to reduce it's landing weight.
