I've never worried about my weight - not that I've not had reason to, I just convinced myself that I was okay. But I'm not, and recently it's been on my mind more and more so I thought okay, new year, let's try and do something about it.
I don't have the confidence to join SW, WW or similar on my own and have no one nearby that could come with me. Similarly I can't bring myself to go to a gym / swimming etc, although I have been looking at Ladyzone gyms who have recently opened near me - anyone got an experience of them? They appear to be different from the norm so thought I might be able to do it!
I do walk a fair bit, and have a Wii Fit (gathering dust ) - my friend in another part of the country and I are going to do sessions each day and report back to try and encourage each other. But my weakness is my sweet tooth and generally fussy eating habits.
I need to lose about 4 stone, but any loss would be a start - I'm not expecting miracles! I need someone to give me regular kicks up the backside so this could be great!
Am I too late to join in!! I was going to start tomorrow anyway, but would love to have encourage from a group. I need to lose around 3 1/2 to 4 stone:o I lost a stone towards the end of last year but lost momentum. So can I join, PLEASE!:)

More the merrier. I've got a few stone to lose too.

Hiya!
2 things - I do ww online so don't go to meetings but get the support from the forums and you can search their food database for points values and recipe ideas. You enter your weight (and any measurements if you want) once a week and it tracks your progress etc which can be very motivating.
More the merrier. I've got a few stone to lose too.
Thank you, I will weigh tomorrow and hopefully keep on the straight and narrow! My weakness is chocolate and crisps, although I am very good at eating fruit and veg most of the time.
I lost 15kg in six months. Because at the time I was poor, and could barely afford rent let alone food. I was overweight before, and now I'm underweight. Because of the feeling of hearing people saying "you've lost weight, that's great!" I became (and still am) petrified of putting on weight!
That's why I won't give up smoking - as far as I'm concerned, and I know it's wrong - but I'd rather die thin and early than die old and fat. I don't exercise, I just smoke and eat manageable meals, and watch what I eat. Being poor is the ultimate diet.
I gave up smoking in August and put on a stone in the space of a month - I find that nicotene cravings and carb cravings feel very similar. Just before Christmas I started the Harcombe diet and lost 10lbs. Unfortunately I have had a rather indulgent Christmas and need to start the diet over again (tomorrow!) but I know I can manage my life without sugar and cigs.
I used to go running a lot but a couple of years ago I started to get sharp pains in my head and neck if I exherted (sp?) myself and had to give up. My New years resolution is to get back into exercise but I don't know how and to be honest I would much rather be curled up on the settee, I completely lack motivation!
Anyway, I would like to lose a stone so I would love to join in with you all!

Hi,
I see that you live in South East London. If you don't mind me asking where abouts? I live in Woolwich.
Depending on when and where it is if you wanted someone to go to WW with you I would consider it. I have a commitment on a Wednesday night so I can't do that night.
I may be able to do a SW. It depends on who is running it. There is one woman that runs a couple in the woolwich area that I don't see eye-to-eye with so would rather not go to her groups. I have been to SW before and plateau'd for a year but would be willing to give it another shot for 3-6 months. Even if I do call it a day you would have made friends in there so could carry on going if you wanted too.
Also if you are looking at going to a gym I'm looking at joining one in Woolwich as it's cheaper than the council one. They charge £17 per month on a rolling monthly contract. So if you decide to stop you aren't tied to a contract for a year or three years.
They also do £10 a month but then that is for an 18 month contract. If you leave you have to pay for the remaining months. I can't use a Ladyzone gym owing to me having erm let's say a slight equipment incompatability for Ladyzone. lol
Well, it's official, I have just eaten the last piece of junk food in my house (pizza!!) I've been to Asda and bought a whole load of meat, fruit, veg, pasta etc to get back on track. I'm now off to start meal planning for the week so I know what I have to look forward to each day!!
Weighted myself earlier too, and I have approx 10lb to go to my ideal (at the moment) weight.
I will be starting the gym a council run one in a couple weeks, I am peeing myself tbh in case others laugh at me as I'm well unfit and quite big.
Don't even concern yourself with that. There are plenty of larger people in the gym. The thought of being the largest person put me off for so long. I am 150 lbs and 5'8 but used to be over 200lbs if I joined then I still wouldn't have been the biggest.
There are people all shapes and all ages. I am really impressed with the older ones. They totally put me to shame with the levels of fitness they have.
I will be starting the gym a council run one in a couple weeks, I am peeing myself tbh in case others laugh at me as I'm well unfit and quite big.
Rosey,
I know women find those places intimidating more than us men but don't worry. People go there to work out, 99% of them won't even say good morning to you, including the staff. Equally I know women feel embarassed when they are really big. When I went to the council gym I was unfit and big. big as in I had a 60 inch waist big. If they were thinking you fat b****** they never said it or in anyway showed it. The first time is the worst because you are going into the unknown.
As far as fitness goes you'll be surprised how quickly your cardio will improve even if you aren't losing weight.
I was going every day and only had cardio work. i would get on an excercise bike for 5 minutes and I was out of breath. In 2 weeks I was doing 30 minutes at a higher level. I was cycling 25km in 30 minutes. Off onto a machine I call the tit banger. Think bicycle pedals for your arms. That is harder than a bike so could only do 10 minutes of that. On to brisk walking 30 minutes. 10 minutes on a bike where the pedals are in front of you like on a pedalo. Then 5 minutes on the tit banger, then back onto the bike for 20-30 minutes. That is a big jump in 2 weeks.
The secret is +2 minutes. Yesterday I did 5 minutes on the bike, today I do 7 minutes. Tomorrow I do 9 minutes. Often you'll say 2 more minutes and do 4 or 5.
Another rule I had was not until the show ends. In my local council gym they have big screens showing TV programmes.
When I would go in the evening the rule was I can't leave until Emmerdale finishes. Not the credits are on. When they've finished. By doing that you are treating it like a PE lesson at school. You can't just say I've had enough I'm walking out of the lesson. The same rule applies. I may go slowly for the last 10 minutes it doesn't matter I'm still excercising. The hardest part is self discipline. You need to find what works for you and make the rules and stick to them.
Hi there, I'll join in to this one as well. I got to goal weight 18 months ago (losing 6 stones in total) and put on 7lbs last Christmas which never came off again so another few pounds on this Christmas. My aim is to get back to goal for going to Disneyland Paris with the family in mid-March.
My weigh in is a Saturday morning with WW so I will be posting updates then, hope that is okay. Am looking forward to getting back into the eating and exercise routine after the fesitivies of the last few weeks.
There are local groups near me for Rosemary Conley, WeightWatchers and Slimming World and I'm not sure which one to join. Has anyone here tried these before and which would they reccommend?
I have followed Slimming World and Weight Watchers and would recommend both of them. The former for when I started out and needed to lose lots of weight. With them I lost 3.5 stones in 8 months. I then struggled for a little while and changed to WW. The reason for that is that SW allows you to eat vast quantities of food and the closer to goal I got the harder it was to lose weight. I needed to learn portion control and WW taught me that.
got my scales and wish they were faulty, I am so heavy I'm absolutely ashamed of myself. I'm going to weigh tomorrow morning and officially start then. To be my ideal weight I need to lose around 8 stone but I recall being 5 stone lighter than I am now and feeling a whole load more confident so that is my aim for 2010. Feeling a little down tonight after weighing but it can only get better from here! Turned down the offer of a chippy tea tonight, willpower - one, greed - nil
going to sit down and recipe plan tomorrow. Anyone got any good low cal recipes to share?
I am going to join in. I just hope I can keep it up.
I try every year, but end up going back into my old ways.
What I eat isn't too bad, I have my moments of naughtiness, but thats life, I just do f*** all exercise as I am lazy. There I said it.... I AM LAZY! And that is what I need to change more than anything.
I am going to the local swimming pool tomorrow and am going to purchase myself a membership. I know if I spend the money up front it will encourage me to go and I love swimming. And it is literally less than a 10 minute walk from my house, so I really don't have any excuses not to. I have also purchased myself a wii and wii fit plus with Christmas money. I think the Wii fit will be good for light exercise in the house as an addition to the swimming and possibly gym (when I get the confidence up) and the weight tracking will be useful.
I used to go to WW and still have all the guides and electronic tracker, scales and bits from that so will prolly make use of them. Not sure if I will go back to WW though, think I will see how I do by myself first. Or I might do it online...hmmm, will go look at the site.
I am not going to divulge how much I weigh/how much I need to loose just yet. I'll let it get down to a less shocking level first.
Well good luck to everyone. I've been running consistently now for just over two years following a four year period where I kept quitting through exhaustion caused by over eagerness which is why I'll say the following: The important thing for anyone looking to get in shape is not to do too much to soon or you'll over do it, get disheartened and quit because of tiredness once the initial buzz of excitement wears off and it will. Even if you feel like doing more and more right away just stick to something that's not too taxing for a month or two and then gradually increase the effort even if what you're doing now seems too easy. That's the mistake I kept making... thinking I should be able to do more and more each day right away until I'd start feeling more and more tired and one day off became two, then a week, month etc.
Oh, me too. That certain time of the month plays havoc with my cravings. Have found that low carb does help a bit with my PMS though.
Me too! I used to be EVIL with PMS. The emotional side and the awful bloating. I am sure in my case it had to do with gluten. I don't eat wheat any more and I also try to avoid rice and potatoes. I love potatoes but they always gave me cramps. I have found you can get corn pasta and its just as good. In fact better as I don't get bloated at all on corn products and its more chewy. Also sweet potatoes and squashes are a good substitute for normal potatoes for those into low-carb and avoiding bloating.
im starting tomorrow too.
the hardest is the first week.(the stomach gets used to being stuffed;))
ive bashed the junk food the last 6 weeks since i havent been working.put on over a stone and a half on top of being overweight as it was:o
ive got an abswing.so i will be doing some sessions in front of the tv(makes it seem like your not doing it that way)
drink plenty of water.have a boiled egg for breakfast and get some fruit i guess( i HATE fruit).
ive got no more junk in the cupboard so its down to willpower now:)

Thanks for the well dones by the way, i was really proud....might have put some more on over the festive period though
*Jumps up and down with hand in the air*

The other thing is, what's a Ladyzone gym?!
Thank you, I will weigh tomorrow and hopefully keep on the straight and narrow! My weakness is chocolate and crisps, although I am very good at eating fruit and veg most of the time.

No i don't. I just want to be more happy with myself and not be in a clothes shop or something and want the floor to swallow me up
http://grocerytrader.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/mikado.jpg <<< anyone tried these before? They are good for a hit of chocolate and have 11 calories in one of them
Good to see more people joining. We can all kick each others butts :D
Hiya Rosey. Don't worry about them just think how good you will feel after a few weeks and months
I've just discovered them and I am totally addicted to them. They are so morish that I've had to stop buying them as it's impossible to just have one.

Just cleared the kitchen of anything that isn't low GI and am finishing the last couple of Xmas chocolates.

Good luck to everyone
