That's when they cross from peaceful protesters obviously

    On a side note,

the woman jumping from that house is a real picture.

There will always be some innocent caught up when desperate measures are needed. If there is an outbreak of violence the Police haven't time to ask questions they need to deal with it immediately.

Judging from what she says in her her profile, I can't reconcile her use of the word 'mind' as she appears to have few functioning brain cells

just look how often she's getting mentioned

Yes, the hypocrisy on these pages is interesting. Maybe it's because DS posters identify with those student rouges who were mostly middle class kids with bad hair while they see these rioters and looters as inner city lowlifes.

Or maybe it's because they're completely different situations?

I don't doubt it is a real picture, but it's not a picture from London. Unless there are square (diamond?) shaped signs like that?

No, but if you take a thousand or so from every large town/city, it soon adds up, and they can nip it in the bud. Once it stops in London, it'll die down elsewhere.

The whole of the West MIdlands police force numbers about 8500 officers to police not just Birmingham but other towns such as Coventy, etc. Merseyside Police have about 4500 officers for their whole area. greater Mnachester has about 8300 to police it;s cities and towns.

Take a thousand from each, and those areas would be severely stretched

The extra numbers will mean they can take more assertive action. They just have to be careful to all stick togehter.

In Croydon, they're tram signs I believe.

I was just reading the twitter account of a Croydon journalist who was tweeting last night, he confirmed it was real as he was there at the time!

Will try and find the twitter link... here it is: http://twitter.com/#!/Gareth_Davies09

I must have missed this. What action are they using tonight? What special powers have the police/army been given?
As far as I can tell, Cameron made no direct threats, just some wishy-washy general rhetoric.

The army aren't trained in public order situations.

They don't have the same training as police, and are simply trained in combat.
That's exactly what this is, COMBAT!!

    Imagine 16,000 policemen and women.

Now imagine them all seated inside Wembley. It doesn't seem that "robust" to me in a city the size of London. But an improvement on last night I suppose.

    Who's in combat?

As far as I'm aware, looters are doing what they want, and the police are protecting/standing off (for whatever their reasons may be). Not what I'd call combat.

These thugs are NOT scared of the police because they know the police are not allowed to use weapons. The police need more freedom in situations like this so they can take back control. They need batons and then tear gas and water cannons.

This is what we need: http://youtu.be/LWXM4vILUh0

Ok, a little bit harsh. But show your damn face if you are going to protest. Not like what is happening at the moment is a protest... Just mindless c*nts.

The peaceful protestors should back away from the violent ones and the police should split them off as best they can.

    Stop making excuses.

Sometimes the world needs to be black and white.

    No need for the rolleyes.

How can you back away when you are stuck in the middle of a crowd?
