Who writes Sky's 'background music'?

I've noticed that a couple of the old background tunes have come back after Christmas (the Spanishy one and another one). Who writes these and who chooses them? And why bring back old ones and not always choose new ones (I don't remember this happening before)? I must admit, I find some of them very tuneful and almost good enough to be the basis of 'proper' songs.

Apologies if this has been asked before - I've had a quick look and couldn't see anything. Being a Sky user of many years' standing, this has always interested me but I've never thought to ask about it before. (The 'Spanish' tune has always been a fave, and I usually dance round the kitchen to it!) I'm assuming the answer will be some bloke cranking them out with a sampler, but I'd like to think there was a bit more to it than that.

Hey thanks - what a laugh, people recording that, lol.

I didn't know this was called EPG music - that led me to this site, which has all of it going right back to 2005! http://www.skyepgmusic.co.uk/

I'm not the only one interested in this! There's whole forums talking about it (including elsewhere on here) and other people wanting to know who wrote what - I'll now follow up the links from my searches to find this out.

About 10 years ago, a single was based on one of the Sky EPG tracks. Long term EPG music fans might recognise the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvaKEqjdEGc I remember the producer saying he'd heard the track on a disc of production music.

What fun this all is. ('Production music' - another term that's new to me!) I wonder how the process works - composers churning out songs, I wonder if they put them on a CD first, which Sky then get hold of, or is there a 'music man' at Sky who goes out looking for suitable tracks? I'd love to know that.

(I'm so glad they're 'real' songs, and not just 'filler muzak', because some of them are really good!)
