Obama Vs Romney- The Basics

Hi,

Long story short:
I am, by my own admission, completely ignorant to Politics.
I know it's not good to be content in my own ignorance by I was wondering if someone could briefly explain the main, significant points for and against these two candidates/ their policies etc.

All I can gather is that Romney seems a bit of an inhuman monster and I therefore want Obama to win, though that's not really based on much other than hearsay..

Any contributions would be great.

Cheers guys!

The USA is going bust. The national debt is currently $16 trillion, and rising rapidly. If Obama is elected, the US will accelerate over the cliff; Romney will try to put the brakes on, but probably fail.

The only thing I know is that if Romney gets in then gay/lesbian acceptance wouldn't be going any further, it'd either go back or just halt.

But then Obama is just rubbish too.

One is a progressive liberal who is try to bring a little bit of socialism to the USA, the other is a right wing nut who will probably coax Israel into invading Iran.

Obama believes in stimulus packages to repair the economy.

Romney believes that God lives on a planet called Kolob and the second coming of Christ is imminent, but only after an apocalypse.

Pretty much. The pending war with Iran was set in motion years ago, as was the next economic crisis.

What really scares the sh*t out of me is that this is actually true. :(

Romney believes that taxpayers are weary of supporting the needy and the feckless, that ones healthcare is a matter for you to fund, not the Government.
Romney believes less Government is good Government, Obama believes that it's the State job to look after the weak and the needy.

Classic Left-Right, Socialism-Conservatism sort of thing.

    Reasons not to support Mitt:

    - He opposes the healthcare bill
    - He opposes same-sex marriage and gay rights
    - He opposes the right to abortions
    - He supports the growth of coal, oil and nuclear power
    - He supports military action against Iran
    - He wants to give tax cuts to the rich
    - He wants to add an additional $100bn to the Defence Budget
    - He has a really bad hair-do
    - He's a religious nut

I am a bit amazed by the love in Obama gets overseas, as he really hasn't achieved much in office - a lot of people outside the US are just won over by his undoubted charisma and oratory skills, and have no idea about his actual record or policies. If he was so amazing then the current US election race wouldn't be so tight.

That said I do prefer him to Romney, who I strongly disagree with on many social issues.

Oh, okay. I've just gone from being interested in the outcome of the presidential election, to downright terrified:eek:

I doubt that either the US or Israel will "invade" Iran. I think the aim will be to destroy Irans nuclear and military infrastructure via use of aerial assualts and missiles.

And people who think that the US will want to invade Iran for oil need to realise that within the next ten years America will be the worlds largest oil producer.

The Americans I have spoken to online (FB friends) have voted Obama... not because they particularly like the guy but it seems to be a case of better the devil you know. I am actually looking forward to the results.

I have been told that Romney and his crew are misogynist, of course not being American I am unaware whether or not this is really the case.

Let's not forget that he believes that after said second coming, Jesus will rule from 2 places, Jerusalem....... And Missouri

Oh and the Garden of Eden is in Missouri too, according to Mitt

    Thanks for all the replies!

Romney still seems to come across as a monster/fruit loop then..

I hope Obama gets in, seems like that would be more of a victory for humanity.

Romney is anti gay marriage and anti abortion, but very keen on creating jobs and bringing money back into the pot.

Obama is pro anything that could make him popular, is into supporting a benefit culture, but he wants to bring a version of the NHS to America.

Romney is White, and a Mormon

Obama is Black, and of unknown beliefs

Romney has the conservative vote, and white religious folk

Obama has the black, hispanic and minority vote, and half the white vote

Both have things in common, they are both idiots with annoying wives

    Obama will win.

OP, apparently, since 1928, Republicans only win if they have a P or VP candidate named Nixon or Bush.

So you can take that as an omen, Romney has no chance, or you can take it that the record is certain to be broken some day and it might as well be now.

That's just people projecting their fantasies onto their Messiah. It's underpinned by the arrogant attitude you get from the European left towards America - "why can't those stupid Americans see how great Obama is?"
