I agree. I'm a huge Derren Brown fan and I loved his other books, but Confessions of a Conjurer was awful. Self- indulgent and tedious.

Was planning to go and see him with a friend, but not sure, what's he like on stage? Do like some of his tv shows.

I've seen a couple of his stage shows and they are fantastic, really clever and entertaining - proper goosebump moments.

I've only read one book - it had a chapter on how to improve your memory & visualise numbers into stories - which I really enjoyed and has helped me memorise phone numbers, PIN numbers, footie results all sorts. I even managed half a deck of cards once. You do have to practice quite a lot though

Ironically, I cant remember the name of the book... :D

Used to really enjoy Derren Brown's work until he did that stupid lottery show where he spectacularly predicted the National Lottery result after it had been drawn.

Derren hails from the Bristol area and a lot of the early part
of the book is about when he worked at a large hotel restaurant there
and did close up magic for the diners.

Hes got a very active and analytical mind but reading about
it becomes a little tedious.... I gave up at pag 70

That was a strange show yea, Not showing you the numbers until after they were drawn pretty much made you guess he was cheating....So the show had no point

He was on ch 4 tonite mon 9 to 10.35
recorded live on stage in a Leeds Theatre

His head shaved like a convict

( trying to think what his hair was like before ? )

Great show... how does he do it ? guessing words written in
    envelopes... etc

But then he does have a lot of assistants and he does have an ear piece !

I've seen two of his shows live and others on tv. He's good live but you do start feeling like you've seen it all before after a couple of times because it's essentially the same "tricks" served up with a different theme each time.

I watched it last night and as it said there was no research or something like that I am wondering how did he do ''contracting the dead'' act and the lad he put in a trance and the 'plane'

Go, you won't regret it. I've been to see him on stage for his last 2 shows, and have been thoroughly entertained throughout.

His latest TV stunts have been pretty poor on the whole (i wish he's return to the days of Trick of the Mind) but I highly recommend seeing him live if you get the chance. Absolutely fantastic on all levels. A real showman. Also very funny :D

gotta say though, a lot of his act is hypnotism which
    is a bit dodgey.....

Paul McKenna got on TV doing hypnotism and then became a therapist helping people slim and give up smoking.

Interestingly Mckenna has made it big over in LA

(maybe Derren will one day follow in his footsteps.... hes
got far more talent than Mckenna too.)

Both he and McKenna are bald.

    You decide.
