Yesterday's episode got me hook, line and sinker. Didn't see Chuck as the one to be holding Jimmy back, but there you go. My guess is that now Chuck is getting comfortable with the outside again, he'll go back to work and take the Residential Home case with him, screwing Jimmy over once again.

    What a dick. I'm still seething >:(

I'm not sure we'll get much more Chuck, not in any massive way anyway. His part in Jimmy's move to the dark side has been done, I'd have thought.

God, he turned out to be some kind of shit didn't he? I didn't see that coming at all. If I was his partner at the law firm, I'd be worried about having somebody like that around. If he can do that to his own brother, how would he be treating his partners if the chips were down?!

Great episode. For me, nothing this season beats Mike's solo episode (Ep 6) but this was terrific -where the story all came together. And that last scene between Chuck and Jimmy was powerful stuff.

What a great series this is turning out to be.

When Jimmy said "it had to be you" with tears in his eyes, I thought that was so powerful. Bob Odenkirk is doing a great job. I was absolutely gutted for Jimmy because he so obviously just wanted to make his big brother proud, and I'm still fuming at Chuck. :(>:(

    Lucky you!

You have only watched half of Breaking Bad and have another whole year to watch.

I thought the penultimate episode was brilliantly written and explains everything I was wondering about.

Two years surely?. In the pilot we saw Walt's 50th birthday where Skyler did the bacon number for breakfast all nice and happily.
For his 51st birthday she did it in a foul mood very curtly, and for his 52nd Walt arranged the bacon himself at the diner where he got the machine gun (flashforward opener in season 5, I think)

I never watched Breaking Bad but this series stands on its own beautifully. So well written and acted. I don't think we will see the end of Chuck though, just because of the actor he is. i don't think he would have signed up for the series if he knew he'd be cut after five or six shows. But then the beauty of the show is it's twists and turns every frigging week.

Definitely two years, almost to the day.

Really enjoying SAUL, was not too sure if I would like it as I did not like him on Breaking Bad that much!! Really grown on me and I am up to episode 7!! Really find the character vulnerable and basically a nice guy.

I've been impressed with the writing this first season.
And what strikes me most is Jimmy's humanity.
The slithery lawyer that will cater to guilty people and "Slippin' Jimmy" the con man are already present, but what we're following is a normal guy trying to do the right thing with easier (and more lucrative) options staring him in the face like the garish neon signs at the nail salon.
    And he keeps trying!
He keeps getting sand kicked in his face.
How easy would it have been for Jimmy to throw Chuck into managed care?
(under the care of the specialists the doctor recommended, Chuck would not be unlike Sand Piper residents…dependent on others for his well-being)

Great post. That is exactly how I feel. I really like Jimmy (Saul) now. Thought he was ghastly in BB. I was very touched by his obvious love for his brother.

Re the timeline - exactly, but I'm sure 2013 or a year close to that was referenced in a later season, so what year are we in in BCS?

I loved Saul in BB and I love him even more in this. Love the series - what a fantastic idea it has made showing how he 'turned into' Saul. That last episode was so sad and I did not see it coming that it was actually Chuck holding him back and not Hamlin, as Jimmy initially thought! Gutted it's the last episode on Tuesday though. At least I had the whole of Breaking Bad to watch when I eventually discovered it!

Unfortunately that claim is unsourced so could have been made up by anyone.

It's what Vince Gilligan said at a press conference eg here and the same quote appears lots of other places too.

Thanks, I thought it was around the early 00s.

So, any idea on when BB is set then? :)

Good find, I'll edit the wikipedia article later today to have that as the source.

To be fair to chuck he is proved right - jimmy/Saul turns into someone who uses the law to protect evil men for his own gain. OK, you can argue 'chicken and egg' but I don't think it's unreasonable to question his character.

Still, you would hope that your brother had a bit more faith in you.

Chuck is right and its not really about having "faith" in Jimmy.

For someone like Chuck the law is above everything, Every single word is sacred and should be worshipped and needs to be looked at and looked at again and then some more. People are here to serve those words

For Jimmy it's very different, Its something to be shaped and used to achieve an objective (good or bad). The law should serve the people.

For someone like Chuck Jimmy is everything that's wrong with the world. He is someone who gets by on the fly. Writing legal paper work on loo paper to him is like setting fire to a persons holy book.

You see people who think religion belongs to them all the time and only they are good enough to preach it, Chuck is the same.
