People who can't handle ANY criticism of their idols
What's this about, anyway? I thought we were all supposed to grow out of this kind of behaviour once we left our teens and outgrew our childish crushes, but it's a big problem even with adult fans. It makes it really hard to even attempt to discuss an artist/celebrity on a rational level.
Anyone else noticed it getting worse and feeling hacked off with it?

People have different tastes-that's all there is to it.
You should have seen my tumblr dashboard last night! The Wanted fans were NOT happy about the result. And let's not talk about Twitter....Fan wars!
I think geordielady is just an all out troll.
Scarier are the posters who come down on you like a ton of bricks if you dare utter a word of criticisim towards whoever the flavour of the month is...who, at the moment is Adele. Utter a word against her and you are accussed of taking part in the "build them up, knock them down" mentality...which, to be fair does exist but it's usually pretty obvious when someone is bashing just to be a bitch compared to someone who is putting forth a fair criticism.
IMHO, it's this 'prevailing wisdom' attitude that's the problem. The reason Jedward fans (i.e. me) tend to get so defensive is that every discussion of them seems to start from a point of view that they are utter rubbish and crap, and everyone agrees, when obviously they don't. Fair criticism isn't a problem, thinking they are total utter crap isn't a problem, acting like everyone in the world should think they are utter crap and if you don't agree with me you're an idiot is a problem. Same with those who think someone is amazing and wonderful and talented and if you don't agree...
Put simply, nearly EVERY artist/popstar whatever that gets discussed on here have their more obsessed fans. I'm fine with criticism of my favourite stars. When it gets personal and/or turns into some sort of pathetic hate/trolling campaign, that's when I have a bit of a problem with it.
Sometimes I wonder if she's trolling.
Exactly. There's a difference between criticising and "hating", for lack of a better word. There's also a difference between being unable to handle criticism, and debating your opinions if you disagree.
Essentially, fingers-in-the-ears-lalala approach on either side is silly.
Taylor Swift, Adele and JLS can be pretty scary too, the last ones especially when you're a AB-fan. then they're like JLS were the real winners!!! and i'm like no, have you seen a different show than me?
Though some AB fans can be very defensive
Who is AB?
Stans scare me, I'm a big fan of a lot of bands/singers. So I know what it is like to feel that connection with a piece of music, but to be at a stage when you can't handle anything bad being said, or just pluck out made up facts from mid air is just
I agree.
I tend to start up if I see criticism of my fave acts but I try to argue my point with facts to back it up.
The Bliebers and One Direction fans are most definitely the worse. The 1D fans went off on one last night after they got best single. I told my husband to reply to them about how much the single sold compared to Adele. If he did reply, that would of shut them up! LOL!
Arguing your point with facts to back it up is fine, I don't see any problem with that. As long as the facts are right, honestly sometimes I read posts and I just think 'did you just make that up?'. I think a lot of posters have this mentality of 'if I post long enough, the crap I'm spewing will become true.' They start to believe their own lies almost.
The Beliebers are the worst, but I think that's because most of them are so very young. I don't mind people criticising my favourite artist, we all have different opinions after all, and I respect their right to air theirs, as long as its about the music, and they do it with intelligence and class. When things start getting personal that when I get really peeved. Such as when the beliebers attacked Lily Allen when she just had a miscarriage, that was beyond sick and extremely vile.
Spot on
i have been attacked on the x factor forum for being critical of their idols when i have a good right to.What annoys me is that they think these boys are perfect when they clearly are not.The best part is that they think the boys have talent.:o
My rule of thumb is, that if an artist fans have a name, then some of them will be scary
On twitter I like to socialise with other fans of different artists but then they'll insist so and so is better than somebody else.
My twitter is full of fanbase wars, I doubt the artist is even aware to be honest.
I think all fanbases just need to accept that every artist has flaws as well as us.
