Task scheduler deprecated

I am trying to schedule a task to put a message on the desktop several months ahead. When I click "finish" to add the task to the scheduler I get a message telling me that the task is deprecated. What is this and is there a cure?

What OS are you using and what task are you trying to run?

Browsers and e-mail clients also have Calendars (with Alarms), Reminders and 'To Do' add-ons.

Thanks for the replies. For info its windows 8.1 and I want to print a reminder on the desktop some months ahead.
