I feel very very sorry for siblings who were not brought up together who meet as adults and who are victims of Genetic Sexual Attraction. A lot of impulses we have are linked to survival of the species. I don't see where GSA fits with that.

I read somewhere that it's basically the bonding function without the initial relationships and socialisation that prevent sexual urges- I guess it's like a genetic "friend zone". When people meet as adults they haven't had all that stuff so the attraction is felt as a sexual one. Or something like that.

I get that the bringing up together protects us (or rather most of us) from GSA. What I don't understand is the point of GSA in terms of survival of the species. What could the benefit be of us being more likely to be sexually attracted to long lost relations than the rest of the population.
Is there something about there being a bond to keep families together for mutual support and that that we misinterpret that bond as sexual if we meet later? Is that part of what you were saying.

Yes, I think so. We've evolved the bond for protection and nurturing purposes. The misinterpretation on later meeting is an unfortunate side-effect, because that's how an adult may often interpret that feeling of connection.
As I say, it was a while back that I read this and I forget where, so I'm pretty sketchy on the details! But that was what I took away from it.

That kinda makes sense. The way I had heard it was that the basics of GSA was always there but that being brought up meant we overcame it. It made no sense to me that we would have an inbuilt programme for such attraction. It probably explains the desire to create a new family together that those with GSA often seem to have. Maybe that's part of it - the sexual attraction is the enabler to create the family.
As long as the male has a mandatory vasectomy to avoid risking the baby being born disabled... I don't care.
As I understand it, the risks are not significant between siblings. It is when interbreeding continues for generations (cue jokes about Royal Family), without any additions ro the gene pool , e.g. that family found recently - in Australia I think.

Yep. Nobody's business but their own.
Why??
Yea i deliberately tried to put something outrageous out here and failed
lightdragon, it was only really an off the cuff, lighthearted observation.

Okay, I'll accept that.
So where do you stand on the issue? ;-)
I'm oot!
Look at us now.
Does that mean it should be illegal - no.

Why does being consenting adults make it okay though?
Then again some believe bestiality is fine so long as you're kind to the dog....or goat.
Incest is unhealthy in all respects and those who willingly indulge in it have serious underlying issues.

Should be allowed to marry, if you want to...
The state should stay out of our bedrooms, people can f*** rubber inflatable sharks they bought from the shop next to the beach for all I care.
How would a dog, especially one dependant on you for food etc, give consent?

Would you require other genetically affected couples, who are not related, to be sterilised as well?
Is it OK for people to have sex with animals?
