Have heard good things about Lehmann but not sure if Phil will want to go head to head with Gary, or indeed if he will want to focus on coaching/playing. No mention of Carragher, looking like he will be joining Sky.
I think that article makes a few sweeping generalisations at times. Personally I'm not bothered about whether I've seen the player play football or not. I remember the likes of Jamie Redknapp, Alan Shearer and Niall Quinn all being decent/very good footballers but I don't like any of them as pundits. I never saw Davie Provan or Jim Beglin play but they are my favourite summarisers - equally I never saw the likes of Alan Smith, Mark Lawrenson or Andy Gray play. It makes no difference as to whether I like the pundit or not; all that matters is how well they speak and how good their analysis is.
Gary Neville has been brilliant but I think he's one of the few emerging pundits to make that impression. Generally I prefer hearing from the experienced pundits who are a bit more distanced from the game - Jimmy Armfield and Graham Taylor are easily my favourite pundits on 5 Live for example. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule and you have to take it on a case by case basis.
Interesting however that BT have still not confirmed any of the names or commentators for that matter and we are only about 3 months away from launch date.
Im tending to agree with a Charles Sale comment that they may well be finding it difficult to put pen and paper to names willing to be signed up on the pundit and co-commentator front.

Your making me feel very old, especially when you say you never saw the likes of Jim Beglin & Alan Smith play!!
I guess Sky will be glad City won as it should take the title race a bit further - although might make picks for the May games a bit more complicated. Do they risk picking the 2 Man City games and Man Utd V Swansea, even though it might all be over by that point? Personally I think I'd leave them out but will be interesting to see.
I think it's worse for Sky that City won.
Problem is that title won't be decided for quite a while now - almost certainly not until after R36 TV games have to be picked and probably not until after R37 are picked as well.
This is going to mean Sky may well have to pick Man U and Man C games which will then become irrelevant - or almost irrelevant because even if title not officially decided when say Man C play R36 it'll still be a non-event.
Obviously Sky are helped a bit by R36 having Man U v Chelsea which they would want anyway. But Swansea v Man C (R36) would be a rubbish pick.
Both Man U and Man C R37 games also rubbish (assuming Reading down). But how late will PL allow R37 to be picked? I guess if Man C reach FA Cup Final it goes to midweek anyway which could help re allowing picks to be done later - ie TV pick doesn't move the game.
Thanks for pointing that out. I had somehow missed The Wanderer's post detailing the BBC JPT Final details when skimming over this thread yesterday before posting, so apologies to him.
In other news, Easter Monday's ITV4 Bundesliga highlights programme has finally been added to the ITV Player today along with last night's show, so I had a double helping of German football earlier today.
In the absence of Ben Andrews last week, there was a debuting voiceover reporter on the show. Tim Peters, who is a commentator on Arsenal TV, did a couple of matches along with Joe Speight (who didn't get a caption), Joe Blake-Turner and Seb Hutchinson (both of whom did). Last night, it was back to the usual trio of Speight, Andrews and Blake-Turner.

Personally I'd just leave those games out. Man Utd V Chelsea will be chosen anyway - I don't think they should gamble on Swansea V Man City.
As for round 37, Man City could be moved to midweek so they could perhaps pick that up later in the season if relevant. I don't see why they can't just say schedule both the Man Utd V Swansea game and another (say Stoke V Spurs) for 4pm and then wait and see which they want to pick. But personally I'd leave Man Utd and Man City out of weeks 36 and 37 aside from the Man Utd V Chelsea game. Man City winning at least means matches such as Man City V West Ham might be decent.

Could of had a 'that night in Istanbul - the second' ;-) Clive had great calls in that 2nd half...
Couldn't agree more. Clive had a pretty decent game. Still wish that ITV had picked Dortmund v Malaga, even if there would've been the possibility of 'that night in Dortmund' occuring.
Nights like this why I simply love the Champions League!
I don't know if anyone else was watching on NOW TV tonight. It might be a one-off, but it was incredibly crap. Between 7pm and 8.10pm everything was fine. Then the stream cut out. It came back for the last 10 mins of the first half and half time, but we missed the entire 2nd half. Poor poor effort from Sky tonight.
I didn't watch on Now TV as firstly, I have SkyGo, and if I wanted it as a oneoff I'd get a stream or go to the pub at that price. But, anyway, a friend of mine tweeted to say he got it was disappointed. He couldn't get it working on two devices.

I think there is always something special when you get a stage in the comp. some years when there is no British teams. Broadcasting wise presentation / commentaries are laid-back and are neutral (on the whole). I thought the last 8 was one of the best in a long time, and 3 nights out of 4 in the QF's it has been fantastic.

After tonights Champions League matches, it was bad decision by itv to pick Real. Real may have been a good match but it was all over from the first leg, tonights match was like a 3rd place play off in the World Cup as the result was meaningless as Real were not going to give away a 3 goal lead.
Only saw the end of both games. Were commentary teams on-site or off-tube? I am guessing Sky were on site but ITV off? I know the ITV studio team were from London which suppose is fair enough.

He used to do Man Utd games for Century FM, so he'll have plenty of experience of commentating on late winners...
