Are there any fans of Hal Ashy on here? Even though four films that he directed won seven Oscars I can't help but think he's underrated. He was a key figure in New Hollywood in the 1970s but doesn't seem to get as much attention as Francis Ford Coppola, Brian De Palma and Martin Scorsese. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the films Hal Ashby made between The Landlord in 1970 and Being There in 1979. My favourite is Harold and Maude. I've adored that film ever since I watched it when I was 12 with my dad and my older brother.

Sadly he does seem to have been forgotten. Been a while since I've seen any of his films but they always left me with the feeling that there was intelligent life behind the camera - unlike a lot of Hollywood movies.
