I am looking for movies that portray a character or characters with mental health issues.

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

Try this old thread What films do you think are insightful in their approach towards mental health?. Some good suggestions in there.

Check out an Oz film called "Angel Baby" with Jacqueline Mackenzie. Also, going back a bit, "The Snake Pit" with Olivia de Havilland.

The Fisher King, IMHO Robin Williams' finest hour.

Twelve Monkeys also has an interesting take on mental health and Brad Pitt is superb.

    Clean, Shaven

Watched that a few times some years ago (about a decade; I haven't seen it repeated since), and always wonder why it's hardly known (at least from my experience). Great film and Peter Greene is quite stunning in this.

    A Beautiful Mind.

Mr Jones - Richard Gere playing a manic-depressive. Supposedly studio bosses weren't too happy about the film, suggesting that it would be better received if they dropped the "depressive" side of his character!
