So Bauer are creating local 'place' stations but then removing any scrap of local content from their presenters. Note to Bauer: don't pretend you give a fig about local markets when you don't. At least Global have been honest about it down the years.
And now on your local station Metro 2 we have your local jock John Leslie. That will go down well on Tyneside ...NOT.
At least when Tony Blackburn is on Sunday afternoons he makes it clear he is in London. I can see a big backlash coming. Older people don't like being lied too and that is what is happening here.

So would you be happy if they were coming from a studio in England?
None of the shows will be coming from less than 150 miles from me. Local radio indeed.

At the moment the entire output is coming from studios less than three miles from my home. That is about as local as you can get.
Bauer are making a big thing about the station being local radio. I do appreciate that listeners in Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Hull, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow and everywhere in between are having the piss taken out of them come 5th January. At least up to now the presenters on Magic have acknowledged that they are not local by referring to the locality of the people who contact the station. In January the presenters will not be able to mention the station name unless it is done with split links. A more honest way would have been to roll out one station name and promoted that as coming from one base. This Metro 2, Clyde 2, Viking 2 is just a farce. They even have the gall to have a TFM 2 when TFM hasn't existed for over a year. It is a bloody disgrace how these suits continue to lie and deceive.

Ally seems to be fireproof it seems. Not sure he is a drivetime style presenter either.
Any relation to his position in the senior management at Bauer in Scotland is purely coincidental.
I do remember him having plenty to say on the Talk In about retaining the specialist music shows when the AM stations were networked across Scotland. Presumably the monthly pay cheque depends on toeing the current party line now, but then how many of us could afford to do differently?

Networks from London. No announcements on GHN told us listeners that would be happening either.
Replacing Tom Ferrie with Tony Blackburn from London on a Sunday afternoon is not a fair way to treat us listeners.

The only announcements in England have been to say that the station name is changing from Magic to Metro 2, City 2 etc depending where you are. The only presenter from Newcastle to leave so far have been Anna Foster from the breakfast show a few weeks ago and Dave Campbell yesterday. Most listeners think nothing else is changing. Most know nothing about shows coming from Scotland. All the emphasis has been on old heritage names coming back because Bauer love local radio.
Having read through, and having listened to the promo of Hallam 2 which appeared on Youtube and various other places, it appears that they have merged GHN with Magic North - turning it into a slimmed down GHN and a slimmed down Magic.
The question is where will the English and network feed come from? The Scottish opt-outs will probably be where they currently are but will the main feed be via Newcastle or will it be moving and if so, where?
Game On in northern England is an interesting enhancement to the schedule. Hopefully it will lead to more of the stations providing football commentary again as they once did.
Micky Gavin should from Dundee, It should also be noted he is a producer, at TAY etc.
Jim probely did not want the 4 hour shift, every night, but who knows. At least its good mixed of Scottish and English, we have to be grateful for that. It does seem stupid a full rebrand is not on the cards.
Now that the oil isn't worth getting out of the ground you can go as soon as you like.
Don't be daft, the oil was only ever a very small part of Scotland's GDP.
This crisis like all others is being stage managed and was planned regardless of the referendum outcome .
On that subject radio could have been fun up here ;-)
If that's a serious question rather than a witty retort, I broadly agreed with the John Myers proposal and the following Ofcom regions carved out, with co-location exceptions. Advertising money has shrunk and local radio as it was is no longer profitable.

Sorry but this is nonsense - these city stations are perfectly sustainable through advertising. Try downloading the accounts from companies house like I have.
They were sustainable for well over 30 years and still are today.
Local radio is also sustainable in much more crowded markets around the world than we have here in the UK.

If only they had the balls to vote YES.

I know, we only voted no to piss you off:D

John Leslie your local Jock. LOL.

He was on drivetime a few years back on the old Radio Tay before the split to Tay AM and Tay FM.
I did wonder myself about Ally Bally's position whether or not he was secure.

Coming from the local studio in the small town of London all Sunday afternoon to be precise.
A far cry from the good times on the old Radio Clyde, Radio Forth, Radio Tay, Northsound, Westsound, South Westsound and MFR.
Bauer couldn't be any more pathetic.

Where was this petition when the Ofcom canvassed for opinion into localness guidelines?
Too little, too late.

Where were you ? ;-)

I wonder whether these will be incorporated into some shows above? For example, the 70s at 7 may in the end continue.
I heard Tony mention this afternoon that his show will be on in Scotland too.
