Undoubtedly the "big beast" of the state broadcaster's New Year schedule, Aidan Gillen dons the Charvet shirt of the controversial ex-Taoiseach. Of course, pretty much the whole audience already knows every line of the likely script, and surprisingly the first episode starts in 1979, rather than with the Arms Crisis, but that still leaves almost 20 years of incident to be squeezed into three 90-minute episodes. Expect huge ratings - not quite Love/Hate territory, but likely 600,000 +.
