Maybe BBC One should air a Strictly Come Dancing: Champion of Champions series next Spring, getting together some of the shows best loved winners and contestants. Obviously it wouldnt rate as well as the usual Autumn series but would get 5m+ at least and help BBC One hold up against Talent, while also dragging some BGT viewers away from Itv. Now that Bruceys gone, maybe it will be more likely to happen [Bruce always goes on holiday this time of the year].

Maybe the BBC should stick on family films eg Pirates of the Caribbean & Indiana Jones.

BBC1 can't keep going to the Strictly well. They need more than one big light entertainment hit.

Big start for Talent, and even though it was an exceptional night last night (even I was watching ITV for ninety minutes), it looks as though it'll stay at 10m for the rest of the Saturday shows.

I think that new quiz with Angela Rippon will nosedive over the next few weeks, though.

ITV will be well pleased with last night's first two showings of BGT. There's six more airings across the weekend to add to the ITV and +1 debut, plus ITV player.

Amazing Greys and The Guess List were weak and that's being kind.

I do think this is one of the major issues with EE at the mo - not the show itself, but the way it's under-promoted, or promoted in the wrong way. There have been a few surprises recently (including last night's return of a character we knew was coming back, but we didn't know when), but these will have passed by those who might have lapsed into becoming infrequent viewers. It's these drifting viewers that EE needs to use their publicity machine to hook back in at the right time.

Thats's an interesting idea but soaps are no longer talk about TV. They actually allow viewers to dip in and out. The days are gone when people watched every episode in an appointment to view type of way. They become almost like background noise, you have it on but do numerous things. I know that's how I watch Coronation Street and Eastenders.

There is watercooler tv, event TV which is the likes of The Walking Dead or Games of Thrones. Where you feel you must tune in live to avoid it being spoiled or to discuss at work the next day. The landscape has changed dramatically, even in the past two to three years.

I enjoy Eastenders when I watch it but not in the same way. A character like Stacey returning would have been huge 5 years ago but now it hardly touches the ratings. The influx of people coming in and out no longer feels eventful like it once did.

Have watched both of the gameshows now. AG is like a number of other shows and is just meh. The Guess list was entertaining but a gameshow it is not and how they could maintain what went on last night I doubt. Cant see either being around too long.

Or maybe in a years time, throw on a repeat of the previous series of Doctor Who and team it with a new series of Atlantis (if it is still around) and follow it with Pointless Celebs.

The BBC shouldn't just throw in the towel when it comes to BGT, complimentary scheduling works and giving the viewing public a choice is what they should be doing. I don' t watch BGT, so seeing last nights BBC One schedule gave little choice - it seemed to be quiz shows and Casualty. Fortunately we had a few bits recorded that we could catch up with

Yep. I think List might keep hold of its 3m over the next five weeks, though. Maybe just under 3m.

No problem, yours was a much more informative post. The 2009 series was mental! I can remember the night of the final and the weather was glorious. Must've been the hottest day of the year and the final peaked at 19 million. Not to be sniffed at! But then again, SuBo was the flavour of the month.

Thanks for the figures, cylon6 (and Hassaan). It's interesting the show has been bleeding viewers since 2009 albeit at a very slow rate. Tougher opposition from The Voice and weaker Coronation Street support for the results shows over the last two years wouldn't have helped. Will this year see an increase? We'll have to wait to find out.

I think you've summed both shows up well. Amazing Greys was a bit dull while The GuessLList had moments but I think could get boring week in week out.

Presumably give or take the few weeks effected by sport, last night's BBC1 schedule of old faithfuls will be pretty much the line up every week until late September?

You can always tell when Summer has started when Pointless moves from early evening build up to the flagship main feature.

When will the gymnastics show be airing?

I wonder how BBC Two, C4 and Channel 5 held up last night. BBC Two probably stayed over 1m with the golf.

The London Marathon as ever looks magnificent in HD and should see a bit of a spike due to Mo, its a fabulous event imo-no fairy-tale story though it seems.
