Having visited Detriot I can say it truly is a third world city of despair and ruination in a so called 1st world country, the mere fact politicians have allowed Detriot to become a disfunctional nightmare is a disgrace.
To think that this was the same city that gave us all that wonderful Motown music in the 60s
All American city's are laid out the same way, all look more or less the same, and American women who are not fat tend to all sound the same, and seem to take their body shape inspiration from Barbie. ^_^
There has to be a reason why all those pics were taken in the dark....
So you can't see the beggars, homeless, mentally ill...
... Openly racist politicians, failed justice system, the most people prisoned in the world, anything designed to help Americans denounced as socialist,
It can't be denied that it has some breathtaking scenery from North to South. This country and a lot of others do too. I'd love to hire one of those camper vans and travel all over North America and Europe.

..Tehy call it the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.
One thing that strikes you when you visit america is how UGLY it is.
behind the glam of city centres are really poor areas. You wont find anything like it in Western Europe. Lots of poverty and crime.
Many of the towns and building layouts are ugly.
Yes i suspect America is not as great as it's made out to be,
Sometimes i watch documentaries about parts of America and it looks like a third world country in some parts which i find shocking for such a rich country.
Eh? You can critcize a lot about America but its citizens have one of the best protections of human rights in the world, enshrined in the BIl of Rights amendments in their constituition. They've had legal human rights legislation for centuries where as the UK only entered a human rights act into law in the last 20 years - and that was only because the EU forced them into it.
Freedom of Speech is a misnomer in the UK... the government can place restrictions on it through superinjuctions, hate speech crime etc, As Freedolm of Speech in the US is part of the constituion the US government can't touvh it... down side is that it allows the likes of the Westborough Baptist church to peddle their hate without restriction
Okay, their human rights record for foreigners is much less spectacular, though..
I'm a bit confuddled as to MissYankees' motives here, but thanks for reminding me that there are lots of bits of the US I'd still like to visit.
FWIW from what I've seen so far, San Francisco and Chicago ( my favourite city) and Maine are places I want to go back to. Just wish the £ could go back to the days it was worth $2.15!

You should have led with these pics in your opening post. This is much better than tall buildings with lights.
Is that the response you're looking for?
Or are you hoping for;
'Merica is full of stupid fat 'Mericans, though.
?
For starters, they have the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

I would be very surprised if the OP actually knew what or where Italy is.
Isn't the correct answer (like most countries) both at the same time?

Atrocious human rights too.

I have to travel through New York every ruddy day to get to work. It's between Deane and Ladybridge, just off the A58.
