Psyllium Husk for IBS

Has anyone taken psyllium husk as treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Diverticulitis? I started taking it on the advice of a friend about a week ago. He warned me that there could be a few side effects like headaches, etc but other than that it has had no effect whatsoever, good or bad. Would like to hear from anyone else who has used it.
