He should resign. Both parties have denied the contents - therefore the person leaking it and spinning lies for political gain is untrustworthy.
It's not as if the Lib Dems don't have better would be MPs without seats now. If they want to keep their Orkneys & Shetlands seat they'd be well advised to get shot of this spinner ASAP. They just might win a by-election still with a decent MP like Swinson, Crockart or Moore. Even Alexander although I personally think he's a bit tainted by coalition.
Good and realistic analysis - always said LD would retain but if a no mark comes in? Your choices would probably mean still a LD seat as they are decent LD's and trusted.
The former Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael admitted he had agreed to leak the memo to a newspaper during the election campaign after his involvement was exposed by a Cabinet Office inquiry. But, significantly, the inquiry concluded that the memo itself was genuine and “an accurate record of the conversation that took place between him (the civil servant) and the French Consul General”.
Seems Sturgeon lied as well according to the inquiry.
It says it was an accurate account of the conversation with the French civil servant NOT an accurate account of what Nicola Sturgeon said to the French Ambassador - trying reading the article properly.

Which bit of
Nicola Sturgeon did want David Cameron to win the general election, report concludes
yes he's the only libdem in the village i knew someone would say it
he Is employed by the tories to be scottish secretary ..... he should be demoted to a secretary for this!
ALMOST half of people who voted LibDem in May’s General Election believe Alistair Carmichael should resign for his role in the “Frenchgate” memo leak, a new poll has found.
A Panelbase survey for Wings Over Scotland found that little more than a third of Scotland’s remaining LibDem supporters - just 36 per cent - think Carmichael should continue his term as MP for Shetland and Orkney, with 49 per cent believing he should resign his role.
Last night, the LibDems refused to comment its findings.
Maybe the just accidentally broke the embargo on the press release which has already been written about the decision which hasn't "officially" been made yet.
If he gets off now, it will be used as evidence of an establishment stitch up.

Contradicts what Carmichael said. He should know after all.
proves NOTHING
it doesn't say that the exact conversation took place, only that the memo was "genuine"

Which bit of
did I not read properly?
It's a cleverly worded report that conveniently avoids most of the story.
You read the headline correctly. That doesn't mean that the headline itself is correct.
He's not the Scottish secretary.
Sorry Capper....... err, Salt Tyre, I have no idea what what that means

Can't wait to see how the usual suspects will spin this to put the blame back on NS 😀
Was it splashed over the front page?

Most likely in the smallest letters buried away somewhere if at all. The press in this country are shameful. Alistair Carmichael is shameless.
Lib Dem MP Alistair Carmichael applied for the session claiming the government had abused parliamentary process by planning to limit the voting powers of Scottish MPs by changing Commons rules.

Does he know where the bodies lie?
"A legal bid to have Alistair Carmichael removed as an MP will be heard at a court in Edinburgh later this year."
Seems that the Scotsman can see into the future

We will have to wait until September to find out
