I have seen a few of his movies, I need give some re-watch, as it's be few years since of seen them.

Also my older brother thinks he is the best the actor or his favorite actor!!

He thinks Goodfellas is the best! (That is his favorite movie) ...

Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, Casino, Heat, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Copland...

Basically avoid the films where De Niro does "comedy" - Meet the Parents, Analyze This, Rocky & Bullwinkle etc.

Haven't seen all of his films but the ones that I like are The Godfather Part II, The King of Comedy, Heat, Goodfellas, Raging Bull and even Meet The Parents Also I thought he was one of the better parts of Silver Linings Playbook (a film which I didn't like overall). I'm not so fussed on Taxi Driver as most people (maybe I need to give it a re-watch perhaps).

Tough question. He's had a great career with an impressive body of work to look back on (though it has definitely nose-dived in the last decade or so).

Personally, I'd go for Raging Bull. My favourite Martin Scorsese film with an insanely good performance by De Niro as Jake LaMotta.

    Taxi Driver
    The King of Comedy
    Goodfellas
    Raging Bull
    Awakenings

He's been in a few other good films, too. The last couple of decades, though, have been a disappointment. It's a pity, because you know he can do better.

Personally i think The Deer Hunter is not only Robert De Niro's greatest film but the greatest film of all time.

I might be in the minority but I personally think The Deer Hunter is one of the most over rated films in history. That opening wedding scene goes on way to long for start and the rest of the film is average at best.

Midnight Run is far and away Deniro's best 'comedy' though its more of a road movie than anything else and Deniro plays it straight. Definitely one of his most entertaining films. I havent rated anything he has been in as particularly good since Heat, that was definitely the watershed moment.

Totally agree on Deer Hunter the second act was good but the first and third could easily have been cut in half and improved it greatly.

Midnight Run has also been on one of the ITV channels recently. No doubt it will be repeated.

He was brilliant as Max Cady in the remake of Cape Fear.I'm sure even Robert Mitchum would agree.

Cape Fear, A Bronx Tale, Brazil (bit biased because I love Brazil!) This Boy's Life, he has so many great films under his belt, very hard to choose a fave. I also loved him in Meet the Parents and Analyse This and the sequels to each :o:D

Another vote for King of Comedy....unsettling, cringe worthy, brilliant. Like Taxi Driver and Mean Streets too. He can be a bit too mannered for my tastes at times, but when he's good....

A great actor and one of the few actors that is able to unsettle me especially in Goodfellas.

But I do think that he also has very good comic timing and I do enjoy watching him in light hearted films like 'Meet the parents' and 'Midnight Run'.

One of my favourite Robert De Niro films is 'Falling in Love'?

I've been waiting to rewatch Meet The Parents next time it came on TV, as I was watching the World Cup yesterday realised that is was actually on BBC Three HD and had missed it.

Yeah, pretty much. Stop at the mid to late 90's.

I half agree with you.:p. the wedding scene is tedious in the extreme and symptomatic of Cimino's self-indulgence when no-one reigns him in. However, the rest of the film is magnificent; I think a lot of people's enjoyment of it is tarnished by having to sit through that interminable wedding scene.
